Appearing on NewsNation on Friday, April 17, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) warned that his party is moving away from a position of fundamental support for the United States of America, something he and others, mainly on the right, see as quite worrisome.
For reference, that came during Rep. Smith’s appearance on NewsNation’s “On Balance,” and came as the Democratic representative described the Democratic Party’s increasingly anti-America foreign policy stance, something that many on the right have called out in the context of Ilhan Omar and like figures.
Beginning, Smith defended general hostility to conflict, saying, “I think it is just one of the most dishonest things that perpetuates a war, if you’re not in favor of a war, you’re rooting for us to lose, and you’re rooting for the opposition, that is just a ridiculous argument. Are you in favor of a full-scale invasion of Iran to make the regime crack? I don’t think you are. Does that mean you don’t want America to win?”
Continuing, however, Smith admitted that his party is moving in a very dark and dangerous direction, as it it moving toward no longer supporting the United States of America. He said, “Okay. … So, second point, I do worry about where my party is at in foreign policy, that we are moving away [from] fundamental support for the United States.”
But he then went back to rambling and complaining about President Trump and the war in Iran, saying, “But Donald Trump doesn’t help when he comes out and says, what is the United States of America about? We want to completely erase the Iranian civilization, we don’t care how many civilians we kill, we have the Secretary of Defense saying, give them no quarter, which means no survivors.”
Concluding that point, he absurdly insisted that what Trump is doing is turning America into a predatory state. He said, “Basically, it’s making the United States of America into, basically, a predatory entity. I want to balance those two things. I don’t want my party to wind up too far over there.”

The Trump comment about which Rep. Smith complained was a Truth Social post in which Trump said, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”
The president then added, ‘We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
In a more recent post, the president said, “Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom. That wasn’t nice, was it? My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations. Iran recently announced that they were closing the Strait, which is strange, because our BLOCKADE has already closed it. They’re helping us without knowing, and they are the ones that lose with the closed passage, $500 Million Dollars a day! The United States loses nothing.
