In yet more massive news for MAGA and the Trump Administration, it looks like the infamous RINO Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is finally going to be ousted from his seat and replaced by a real MAGA candidate, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. In fact, all the polling shows that Paxton is ahead in pretty much every metric that matters headed into the primary runoff.
That is huge news, as it is quite in contrast to what RINOs would have the GOP believe about what sort of candidate can win elections. They have long argued that the only way to win over moderates, young people, and non-white voters is to put forward bland and disappointing candidates like Cornyn, but the data shows that really Paxton is doing much better with all those groups.
According to polling from the election, Texas AG Paxton is leading Sen. Cornyn by eight points headed into the May runoff election, and that he is essentially sweeping the field by winning over not just generally Trump-aligned voters, but also Latino voters and young voters, showing strength in non-traditional GOP segments.
Such was revealed by a poll published on Friday, April 17 by a non-partisan group called Texas Public Opinion Research (TPOR). The TPOR poll asked 1,225 likely Republican runoff voters about who they might support in the election, and the pollsters found that Paxton has 48 percent of the vote, Cornyn has 40. About 11 percent remain undecided.
That’s not all. The poll also found that while Cornyn has a minor, two-point lead with elderly voters, which could help him somewhat because that demographic has the highest rate of voting participation, Paxton is 18 points ahead with Latino voters and five points ahead with white voters generally. In fact, AG Paxton is dominating the 18-34 year old demographic with a whopping 69-point lead.
Yet further, the poll found that even an endorsement from President Trump wouldn’t be enough to save Sen. Cornyn at this point: according to the poll, AG Paxton would still win with 45 percent of the vote compared to Cornyn’s 42 percent. In contrast, a Trump endorsement of Paxton would lead to him winning with 55 percent to Cornyn’s 35 percent, the poll found.
Interestingly, the pollsters found that Cornyn’s base is so full of RINOs that a massive 25 percent of his voter base said they would be much less likely to vote for him if he gets endorsed by President Trump because they dislike and disagree with the president so strongly.

There was other interesting data in the poll as well. For example, it found that a near-supermajority of those polled (58 percent) understand AG Paxton to be much better aligned with the Trump Administration’s Make America Great Again vision for the country, with under a quarter (22 percent) saying that Sen. Cornyn is. As such, the election is in many ways a referendum on that MAGA vision for the country.
Adding to that is that less than half of those polled think that Cornyn is a conservative, with about a quarter calling him a liberal and another quarter calling him a RINO. Meanwhile, three-quarters of those polled see AG Paxton as being a conservative.
