The thing that Democrats assured us never happens appears to have happened again, as two Alabama Democrats were caught in a major absentee ballots scheme that appears to have led to their electoral victories in their town’s 2025 municipal elections. Both have been arrested and are being prosecuted.
As background, the fraud scheme occurred in Lowndes County, Alabama, and targeted the municipal elections in the town of Fort Deposit. It appears to have been a ballot box stuffing scheme of sorts involving the use of absentee ballots to push the former mayor and city council member over the victory line, at least until the irregularities in the election were discovered.
Such is what Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall noted in a press release promulgated by his office. It began by describing the arrests, saying, “Attorney General Steve Marshall today announced the arrest of two Lowndes County residents on charges related to the unlawful use of absentee ballots in the August 2025 Ft. Deposit, Ala municipal election.”
Continuing, the attorney general’s office described the two felonies that the suspects are alleged to have committed, saying, “Jacqulyn Boone, 51, and Steven Thigpen, 49, were each charged with unlawful use of absentee ballots, a Class C felony under Alabama law.”
Adding to that, the statement noted who the two individuals involved with the alleged absentee ballot scheme are, noting that both are politicians in the area who were running for election in the fraud-connected race, saying, “Boone previously served as mayor of Ft. Deposit, and Thigpen was a candidate for the Ft. Deposit City Council.”
Then, noting that they won thanks to the scheme, the statement provided, “Both were declared winners in the August 2025 election.” It added that the fraud was soon discovered and the results thrown out: “The election was later set aside due to voting irregularities, and a special election was held in January 2026.”
The statement concluded, “Under Alabama law, unlawful use of absentee ballots is punishable by one year and one day to 10 years in prison. The Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Division is prosecuting the case. Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional details are being released at this time.”

As could be expected, conservatives online quickly took to pointing at the case as exactly the sort of case that shows why much more serious voter security measures are needed in America, as this sort of thing could cause serious problems with the legitimacy of American elections if not addressed through legislation like the SAVE America Act.
For example, conservative X commentator Eric Daugherty said, “HOLY CRAP! Former Ft. Deposit, Alabama Mayor Jacqulyn Boone has been arrested for MAIL-IN BALLOT FRAUD, along with city council candidate Steven Thigpen. They face FELONY charges for unlawful use of absentee ballots. They “won” the Aug. 2025 municipal election but it got THROWN OUT due to “voter irregularities”. Then they had to hold a special election. That thing Dems say never happens, HAPPENED AGAIN”
