Radical left-wing documentary filmmaker Michael Moore went off on President Donald Trump for threatening to destroy Iran’s civilization in a Truth Social post hours before the ceasefire deadline that was set earlier in the week. The Fahrenheit 9/11 director accused the president of threatening a holocaust against the people of Iran in a Substack article he penned called, “The Apocalypse Is Here.”
“America, a country 250 years old, and the only nation sick and violent enough to have ever used a nuclear weapon, in partnership with Israel, a nation younger than Mick Jagger and Bugs Bunny, and the only nuclear armed nation in its region, are on the verge of wiping one of the oldest civilizations off the map,” Moore started his piece.
The post then took a journey through Iran’s history, beginning with its roots as an ancient civilization, and while he did not explicitly provide support for the current regime ruling the nation, he wrote that the Middle Eastern nation’s culture still produces great filmmakers, despite widespread censorship. Moore then accused the U.S. of causing the current regime’s rise to power in 1953 when the CIA helped overthrow Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.
According to a report from Breitbart News, the article concluded by saying that Iran doesn’t hate the U.S., despite calling for the death of America, but it’s the U.S. that hates Iran. “Our leaders and our media are stupid enough to keep asking questions like ‘why do they hate us?’ Hate us?! They don’t hate US! WE HATE THEM!” he ranted with a flare of melodrama.
Moore also referred to the United States as the villains in the conflict, writing, “We’re the bad guys! If you didn’t realize that under previous presidents at least Donald Trump has ripped off the mask and shown you who we really are!” On April 7, 2026, Iran signed on the dotted line of a two-week ceasefire, opening up the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump announced the deal in a post on Truth Social, saying that the U.S. and Iran had finally reached a ceasefire agreement before the deadline expired. The announcement also revealed that the ceasefire deal went both ways and as such, the U.S. would refrain from further bombing missions. He also stated that this agreement was the first step toward a long-term peace deal with Iran and the Middle East.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” the president wrote.

“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East. We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate,” he concluded.
