WATCH: Democrats Lose It as Trump Jokes about Running for Another Office

President Donald Trump, a man who has seemingly mastered the art of trolling, recently wisecracked that he might consider running for president of Venezuela after the close of his second term, claiming that he polls higher there than any other politician in the South American country. Predictably, Democrats have had a less than enthusiastic response to the joke.

Trump made the remarks during a press conference held on April 6, 2026, which focused on a daring rescue mission of an Air Force officer who had gone missing in Iran after a jet fighter was shot down over the Middle Eastern country. “The people of Venezuela, they say, if I ran for president of Venezuela, I’m polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela, so after I’m finished with this, I can go to Venezuela,” Trump said.

The president then joked about learning Spanish, saying, “I will quickly learn Spanish. It won’t take too long. I’m good at language and I will go to Venezuela. I’m going to run for president. But we’re very happy with the president-elect that we have right now.” Much to the chagrin of liberals across the country, Trump mentioned Venezuela a number of times during the event.

At one point during the press conference, Trump compared the Easter weekend rescue mission of the downed officer to the successful capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He went on to suggest that the outcome in Iran would be similar to that of the operation in Venezuela. The president described the conflict with Venezuela being wrapped up in 45 minutes.

He then boasted that the U.S. has now imported hundreds of millions of barrels of oil from the South American country. In a cabinet meeting held a month ago, President Trump joked that he “may run” for president of Venezuela, going head-to-head with acting-President Delcy Rodriguez, whom he helped install as the leader of the country following Maduro’s capture.

“The people — actually, I’m the highest polling person. In other words, after the presidency, I think I may go to Venezuela and run for president,” Trump went on to say. He then called the prospect a “wonderful option” for him. While he wisecracked about learning Spanish, during the Shield of Americas Summit, he informed Latin American leaders he wouldn’t be learning a new language, according to Fox News.

Liberals responded to the president’s joke on social media, with one user commenting, “Hahaha, how ridiculous, sir. You have a distorted view of reality. Every time, I’m more and more convinced that you have very low self-esteem. That’s why you always have to say something good about yourself. Since you were a child, they made you feel lesser. You know you’re worth nothing without money.”

Another individual wrote, “Just hilarious. This ignorant buffoon can’t even spell nor command the English language at a 5th grade level. Additionally, his brain & body rot is advancing BIGLY.” A third posted a meme of iconic Spider-Man character J. Jonah Jameson laughing, along with the caption, “That dude is a sleepin a**hole…And there’s still folks that love him.”
