Secretary of War Pete Hegseth put a woke reporter in her place on April 8, 2026, accusing her of asking a “question framed as an indictment” during a press conference the day after a highly controversial social media post from President Donald Trump in which he employed the use of a “trash talk” tactic to intimidate Iran into coming to the negotiating table.
During the event, a reporter asked Hegseth for details concerning the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached with Iran, pointing out that the Middle Eastern country was still launching missiles at targets after the ceasefire was announced. “What we know is that Iran is going to say a lot of things. A lot of people are going to say a lot of things, claim a lot of things,” Hegseth said in response.
“What has been agreed to, what’s been stated is, the Strait is open. Our military is watching, sure their military is watching, but commerce will flow. And that’s what you saw the markets react to is that reality,” Hegseth added. “Iran would be wise to find a way to get the carrier pigeon to their troops out in remote locations to know not to shoot, not to shoot any longer, one-way attacks or missiles, because it takes time sometimes for ceasefires to take hold.”
“We’re watching it. We’re prepared if necessary, but we hope and believe that it will hold,” the secretary of war said. Later, an ABC News reporter asked Hegseth whether his rhetoric on Iranian troops might put American soldiers at risk. “No!” Hegseth replied. “I try to be nice up here, but you did listen to what I said.”
“I laid out the objectives we believe. We’ve accomplished them, and it’s a historic military victory. It’s the typical — of course, it’s ABC. Not a single thing we’ve done has put an American troop in more of a harm’s way,” he stated. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Dan Caine then said he didn’t fully understand the reporter’s question, which Hegseth commented was “an indictment framed as a question,” according to a report from NJ.
The reporter tried to ask a different question, but Hegseth was having none of it, replying, “No, you’ve had your chance.” Folks on social media were quick to slam the media and defend Hegseth’s treatment of the mainstream media. One individual commented on Facebook that reporters tend to “give a speech then ask a question.”
Another took leftist reporters to task, writing, “The cookie-cutter liberal, the standard operating procedure liberal, is really a giant ignoramus. I mean that seriously.
