“Not a Co-Signer of Crazy”: Purple State Politician Ditches Schumer’s Democrats as They Make it Impossible to Be a Christian and a Democrat [WATCH]

Michigan State Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit), who has served since 2018 and will remain in office until Jan. 1, 2027, explained her March 2026 decision to quit the Democratic Party and never seek public office again. She told reporters she repeatedly begged party leaders, “Please do not back me into a corner” on abortion, “the normalization of the gay lifestyle,” and redefining gender, declaring, “I’m not a co-signer of crazy.”

Whitsett said she can no longer reconcile the Democratic platform with Scripture: “It is impossible to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ while remaining a member of the Democratic Party as it exists today.” She called the choice a “spiritual decision,” not political, and credited online Lionheart Church in Georgia for strengthening her faith. In a follow-up Facebook post, she wrote that she answers to God first.

Speaking about her motivation, she explained, “I just sincerely kept asking, please do not back me into a corner. Please do not back me into the corner. I’m not a co-signer of crazy. You can do all of that and be all of that all you want, but when you try to force it on me and make it my reality, now we have a problem,” adding, “I don’t understand how Christian bible go together in Democratic Party.”

“That conviction includes the issues I cannot reconcile with Scripture: abortion, the normalization of the gay lifestyle, and the push to redefine gender,” Whitsett explained, “I understand these are personal for many families — because your son, daughter, cousin, aunt, or uncle may be one.”

Building on this point, she added, “But personal proximity does not change God’s definition of right and wrong. Love for people does not require agreement with sin, and compassion does not give us permission to rewrite Scripture.”

In a follow-up statement on Facebook Tuesday, Whitsett posted, “Those who understand, understand. Those who don’t, don’t. At the end of the day, every knee shall bow, and every tongue will confess. My responsibility is to stand in truth and walk in obedience — not to win approval.”

“I don’t need to justify my convictions. I answer to God first. If my words stir something in you and drive you to post a response somewhere, I pray it leads you closer to Him, not further from grace. No one responds to things that don’t matter. I’m just saying,” she added.

“For me, it is impossible to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ while remaining a member of the Democratic Party as it exists today. I cannot reconcile that platform with Scripture,” the former Democrat added, “I have compromised my relationship with Jesus for too long, and I’m grateful God did not give up on me. He gave me time to repent, turn, and be fully devoted to Him.”

Building on this point, she added, “I will not be seeking re-election for this office, and I will not be running for any office ever again. This is not a political calculation — it’s a spiritual decision.  I don’t have a Heaven or Hell to put anyone in. Only God does. But I do have God’s unwavering Word to stand on, and I can no longer compromise it to fit a party platform or to please people.”

Concluding her comments, she added more context about her background, saying, “My husband and I attend Lionheart Church online from Michigan — Lionheart Church is based in Austell, Georgia — and that ministry has helped shape our walk with Jesus Christ.”
