In a March 28, 2026, interview, President JD Vance recounted meeting 23-year-old conservative influencer Nick Shirley, who rose to prominence with a late December 2025 viral video exposing massive fraud at Somali-run child care centers in Minnesota, including the misspelled “Quality Learning Center”.
Vance highlighted Shirley’s point that young Americans in their 20s struggle to find $60,000+ jobs to buy homes or support families, while seeing fraudsters drive luxury cars and defraud taxpayers of millions. Vance referenced the Minnesota child care scandal. He called for visible arrests and deportations so “the gears of justice” target perpetrators, warning of the risks of failure of losing the country in 10 years.
Kicking off his awesome comments about working with the young podcaster to tackle the fraud issue, the VP noted, “I actually just met with Nick Shirley one on one, very briefly, of course. He’s one of the people who really blew the lid off this crazy fraud in Minnesota, with the Somalian illegal immigrant community there. And you know what he said is a lot of people in my generation, Nick, I don’t know exactly how old he is. He’s probably 21-22.”
Quoting the prominent young conservative, Vance added, “He’s like, ‘they can’t find a job making $60,000 a year, which is what they’d like to be able to, you know, buy a home and support a family. And meanwhile, they’ve got fraudsters.’ He’s talking about his friends, not abstractions.”
Continuing with that infuriating point about Americans being unable to find good work while fraudsters steal millions, VP Vance said, “His friends can’t find that job. But they see people driving Mercedes, making a million dollars, defrauding the American people. It’s an absolute disgrace. And I think if we don’t fix it, we are not going to have a country in 10 years.”
Building on this point, Vance noted, “Well, what people need to see, I think, is that the fraud has been laid bare. We’ve all seen the leering Center, Right, correct? The leering center is not an actual daycare. No, the leering center was a fraud, right?’
“And we’ve seen the hospice fraud in California. And so I think it’s been demonstrated that this is a problem. What people need to see now is like arrests, yes, right, deportations, they need to see that the federal government, the gears of justice grind against these people, and they’re not allowed to just continue,” the Vice President declared.

Following up in his own post, Shirley declared, “True. Most 20-year-olds are actually starting life behind the starting line. They accumulate student loan debt, graduate with a useless degree, and can’t get a job paying above $60,000.”
“Meanwhile, fraudsters defraud the government, making millions,” he added, “Stopping fraud will benefit my generation more than any other as our dollar gets devalued and we have less money to put in the markets to hedge against inflation.”
The young conservative added, “The idea that a foreigner can start a ‘business’ that collects welfare dollars from taxpayers while 20-year-old college graduates can’t get a good paying job is unbelievable. End the fraud.”
