WATCH: Rep. Chip Roy Goes Berserk Skewering Democrats as “Traitors” as House Rules Committee Argument Turns into Full-Blown Shouting Match

During a heated House Rules Committee meeting on March 28, 2026, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) erupted in frustration over a Senate-passed bill that funds most of DHS—including TSA—but excludes new appropriations for ICE and CBP. Roy shouted that the bill passed “by voice in the middle of the night” and accused Democrats of refusing to secure the country, declaring “Americans are dying because you guys refuse to secure the country.”

Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA) shot back, “Stop the bullshit,” and blamed House Speaker Mike Johnson for holding up paychecks. The clash reflects a deepening partisan standoff over a partial DHS shutdown now in its sixth week.

In any case, Rep. Chip Roy exclaimed, “This was passed ‘by voice in the middle of the night.’” Prompting, Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA)  to claimed, “You control the Senate. You control the agenda in the Senate. And the person who is holding up paying people is the Speaker of the House.”

As the interaction descended into yelling, Roy asserted, “Senate Democrats refuse to actually do the job for the American people … And Americans are dying because you guys refuse to secure the country.” Losing his cool, McGovern told him to “Stop the bullshit.”

Reacting to the clip, a viral post to social media noted the dramatic situation, saying,  “🚨 HOLY SMOKES! Rep. Chip Roy is going BERSERK on Democrats for being traitors in the Rules Committee. It’s a full-on SHOUTING MATCH.

Speaking earlier in the week, President Donald Trump slammed the Senate for its inaction in a presidential memo. “America’s air travel system has reached its breaking point. I have determined that these circumstances constitute an emergency situation compromising the Nation’s security,” he said.

In a press conference, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his disgust. “The Republicans are not going to be any part of any effort to reopen our borders or to stop immigration enforcement. We are going to deport dangerous criminal illegal aliens because it is a basic function of the government,” the Louisansa republican decalred.

Closing out his comments at the event, Johnson added, “This gambit that was done last night is a joke. I’m quite convinced that it can’t be that every Senate Republican read the language of this bill,” mocking the anger from many conservatives.

Totaly losing it, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) claimed, “A 60 day CR that locks in the status quo is dead on arrival in the Senate, and Republicans know it. We’ve been clear from day one: Democrats will fund critical Homeland Security functions—but we will not give a blank check to Trump’s lawless and deadly immigration militia without reforms.”

In another viral moment, which we reported on at the American Tribune, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino suggested, ” [You] talk about the possible closure of small airports. Maybe TSA should shut down Dulles and DCA so the Democrat senators can’t get out of here when they try to leave this week. And you should keep them here until they actually pass some funding.”
