Appearing on MS NOW, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) accidentally handed his Republican opponents a horribly embarrassing, for him and his party, sound bite. That came when he told MS NOW host Chris Hayes that Democrats had failed to deliver for “the people we care about most: the undocumented Americans that are in this country.” The interview originally came in 2024, but resurfaced in late March of 2026 and sparked conservative furor.
That highly embarrassing comment came when Sen. Murphy was speaking to Hayes about the current state of border policy negotiations and why past Democratic strategies regarding immigration and illegal aliens haven’t managed to produce a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens who have remained in America illegally for years.
It was Hayes who presented the question and asked about the pathway to citizenship that currently doesn’t exist. He said, “The negotiation didn’t have a path to citizenship. It was entirely on their terms in order to get Ukraine funding, right?” Murphy said that Democrats had leaned on a certain strategy for years that has resulted in little of what they want.
It was as he made that point that Sen. Murphy slipped and admitted that what Democrats have long tried to do is put illegal aliens first and Americans last. He said, “That’s been a failed play for 20 years, so you are right that that has been the Democratic strategy for 30 years, maybe, and it has failed to deliver for the people we care about most: the undocumented Americans that are in this country.”
As could be expected, that unfortunate and quite revealing comment from Sen. Murphy resulted in major conservative outrage when it resurfaced online, specifically on X (formerly Twitter) thanks to the End Wokeness X account, which reposted it on March 23 of 2026 and captioned it by saying, “Senator Chris Murphy: ‘The people we care about most, the undocumented migrants’ He actually said that”.
Responding to that, Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) responded to his Senate colleague by writing, in quote tweet of the End Wokeness post, “This has absolutely proven to be true and never more than this week. Senate Democrats have allowed 260,000 American workers to be used as political pawns so that they could protect criminal aliens that invaded our nation. Sick stuff.”

Commenting on Sen. Moreno’s post, one commenter pointed to Democrats refusing to stand for Americans during Trump’s State of the Union address as evidence that Sen. Murphy was accidentally telling the truth, saying, “This was just proven again when President Trump asked everyone to stand up at his State of the Union rally if they put American citizens FIRST! The only Dem that stood up was John Fetterman. A true bipartisan politician! Thank you Sir !”
Other infuriated conservatives said things like “Progressives put the rest of the world ahead of the interest they were sworn to protect. Treasonous” and “That statement violates Senator Murphy’s oath of office and should be sufficient to expel him from the Senate, claiming he cares most for a group of criminal aliens.”
