Morgan Wallen’s latest single release, “Last Night,” is blowing up since its debut in early February. The controversial country music star is preparing to release his newest album “One Think At A Time.”
According to numbers released by Billboard, the song already has garnered 28 million streams across all platforms along with selling 10,000 copies. This marks the third week in a row that “Last Night” has led the Country Digital Song Sales chart and is topping the Country Stream Songs chart for a second consecutive week. Kay Smythe of The Daily Caller posted a piece describing exactly what has made this song such a rousing success, writing:
“I’m not surprised that “Last Night” is topping all of Billboard’s country charts. It’s by far the best song released in 2023 from his next album. It’s a smooth, melodic, tune that will make you sing along, dance, and reminisce on those difficult times with the ones we love.”
Wallen has one other song from his upcoming album already on the Country charts, as “Thought You Should Know” sits in eighth place. He also has continued to see success from his two-year-old album, “Dangerous: The Double Album,” as it celebrates its 95th week on the Top Country Albums chart.
For those who are unfamiliar with the controversy that once seemed like it may cloud Wallen’s great musical talents, here is how TMZ described the event.
“The country star and a group of buddies had just spent a night out in Nashville. When they arrived at Morgan’s home at around midnight, they were extremely loud … honking horns and talking loudly … loud enough to piss off neighbors. One of the neighbors began recording the antics.
“As Morgan appears to stumble toward his house, he tells someone to watch over a guy in his group. He says … “take care of this “p****-ass mother******” — and then goes on to say, “take care of this p****-ass n*****” … before finally heading in.”
Following this N-word incident, Wallen was sent on an apology tour in which he spoke to many people of color in the entertainment industry to apologize and ask for their forgiveness. Immediately following the release of the video, he said this to TMZ:
“I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Wallen’s record sales, however, actually saw an increase after the incident, propelling to even higher heights as a performer. Now, with his newest album coming out, fans will finally find out if Wallen beat the woke mob that wanted so badly to cancel him. Wallen also says the his 2 year old son Indie played a role in creating this album, according to Taste of Country:
“He started coming in there and banging on guitar strings and, you know, delete songs for Joey and stuff like that. But honestly, he brought a lot of joy into the room. He brought a new energy that we hadn’t had in there before.”
