Son of Radical Democrat Representative Caught Threatening Teacher with a Knife at School

Rep. Gene Wu (D-TX)’s son allegedly pulled out a knife in front of students and one teacher at a prominent Houston-area private school, after school hours, in early March 2026, according to sources within law enforcement familiar with the situation. Wu currently serves as the Democratic Caucus leader in the Texas House of Representatives, and has made waves with his radical rhetoric.

Police officials say they are concerned about the child’s recent behavior and the potential safety risk he poses to others, particularly female teachers and students, indicating that members of the school’s staff or parents might be reluctant to report incidents or serve as witnesses because of Wu’s status as a senior state legislator.

Miya Shay, Wu’s wife, who was also born in China just like her husband, is a well-known media personality for ABC-13 in Houston. Shay graduated from Syracuse University. And what happened with the knife is not an isolated incident. The child has a history of behavioral incidents, including several allegations of throwing desks, bringing screwdrivers to school, and throwing scissors at another student.

According to The Dallas Express, reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reveal that Wu’s son has been described as being “oppositional” and “deviant” in his behavior at school, especially toward females. He was also said to be a person who “often incites incidents by irritating and intentionally upsetting other students.”

The DPS reports also provide details concerning incidents where the student allegedly argued with teachers and lost his temper. Law enforcement sources then revealed that information concerning the incidents involving the state congressman’s son was turned in to the state’s law enforcement intelligence network and were filed as “school safety related.” The reports came from the Houston Regional Intelligence Service Center.

On March 6, 2026, Wu’s son pulled out a 10-inch knife and showed it off to classmates after school. It was later described as hard plastic with a pointed tip and a serrated edge, which is very different from a plastic eating utensil. Reports say that it may have been purchased or produced by a 3D printer. A teacher asked Wu’s son to hand over the knife, but, unsurprisingly, he refused.

Other teachers quickly got involved in the situation. Wu’s son responded by throwing the knife to the ground and it was then confiscated by school staff. Wu, who stood opposed to school choice legislation, despite his own son attending a private school, was featured in an article published by the Houston Chronicle in October 2025, where he stated that the hardest part of his job as a public servant was “missing his kids.”

He then recounted that he once returned home from a trip and was confronted by his oldest son at the top of the stairs, who asked him, “You’re back for real this time, right?” A video clip of an interview featuring Wu from Dec. 31, 2024 has resurfaced, leading to a call on social media for his public record to be scrutinized. In the interview, Wu chats about political unity among minority communities.

“The day the Latino, African American, Asian and other communities realize that they share the same oppressor is the day we start winning because we are the majority in this country now. We have the ability to take over this country and to do what is needed for everyone and to make things fair,” the Texas Democrat went on to say.
