YouTuber Nick Shirley, the man who helped uncover massive fraud involving the Somali community in Minnesota, is at it again, this time revealing fraud in the deep blue state of California. On March 16, 2026, Shirley released a 40-minute video on social media platform X, saying that his team discovered $170,000,000 in fraud.
In the video, he confronts the fraudsters, who then race away from him in a luxury car. Shirley went viral in 2025 after he traveled to Minnesota and filmed several daycare centers, run by Somalis, that appeared to have no students. He then alleged that these centers were being funded by millions of taxpayer dollars, the insinuation being that there was fraud present.
“We ALL work way too hard and pay too much in taxes for this to be happening,” he stated in the video. “These fraudsters have been able to defraud American taxpayers for years without any pushback from the public and politicians.” His latest video had 4.3 million views just one day after it was published. The video shows Shirley and his team going to different locations that are supposed to be daycare or hospice centers, alleging there is fraud.
Multiple individuals that they attempted to interview at several of these locations shut them down and refused to speak with them. According to FOX 5 News, a lengthy report from CBS News also noted fraud taking place at hospice centers located in Los Angeles. “Medicare hospice fraud can happen in a few different ways,” CBS journalist Andy Yamaguchi went on to say in a video on X.
“Shell companies can buy stolen Medicare numbers on the dark web and then bill the government for the services that they don’t ever actually provide,” Yamaguchi continued. In his video posted on X, Shirley said, “Here is the full 40 minutes of my crew and I exposing California fraud, Minnesota was big but California is even bigger… We uncovered over $170,000,000 in fraud as these fraudsters live in luxury with no consequences.”
A report from Fox News revealed that California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom was not impressed with Shirley’s latest video, posting a response to it on his social media account, mocking him and his efforts to expose fraud happening in daycare centers across the state. The post featured a photo of a man equipped with several cameras at a daycare center asking a teacher, “Hey, can I see your kids?”
Shirley responded to Newsom’s mockery, unleashing the truth on him in a reply on the post that read, “You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste right? No need to try and make me look like the bad guy for exposing fraud. People are over it. Start working for the people and not against them.” So far, the response has received over 190,000 likes, 20,000 reposts, and several reactions from high-profile individuals like actor James Woods.

“This guy is a classic grass roots patriot. If this were 1776, he would be signing the Declaration. He should be lauded by every American except the fraudsters, which, of course, is why Democrats loathe him,” Woods wrote. Workers Alliance reposted Shirley’s response, saying, “Nick Shirley is a national hero to be celebrated, while corporate media should be shamed.”
