Brave Nevada Sheriff Bravely Refuses to Release Dangerous Felon Despite Rogue Judge’s Orders, Faces Contempt Charge

Las Vegas Metro Police, under Sheriff Kevin McMahill, defied Judge Eric Goodman’s order to release felon Joshua Sanchez-Lopez, who has 36 arrests, including manslaughter and drugs, to electronic monitoring after posting bail for grand larceny.

For context, Metro’s Mike Dickerson stresses public and officer safety, refusing to “violate the law” in the presence of dangerous individuals. Defender P. David Westbrook calls it unconstitutional overreach. Conservatives, including Libs of TikTok, praised the sheriff amid threats of contempt.

Mike Dickerson, assistant general counsel at Metro, stated, “We have to take a look at that and say, ‘Is this somebody who our electronic supervision program can monitor safely in the community?’” adding, “This is an issue of public safety.”

Dickerson declared, The safety of our officers is paramount. The safety of the public is key, and the key here is Sheriff McMahill will not violate the law to appease the Las Vegas Justice Court and let out people who he deems to be dangerous.”

“We have a system that’s set up so people can get out of jail quickly, and sometimes, there just needs to be a little bit more thought given to it because lives are on the line,” the General Counsel said to conclude his comments.

Fighting back, Sanchez-Lopez’s public defender, P. David Westbrook said “Metro’s argument is flat wrong. It is the job of the elected judge to decide whether someone charged with a crime should be released and under what conditions.” “The idea that a Metro employee can overrule a judge’s release order and keep someone locked up should worry anyone who believes in the Constitution and the rule of law,” the biased lawyer claimed.

Breaking the news, prominent conservative Libs of TikTok posted, “NEVADA SHERIFF FACES CONTEMPT FOR REFUSING TO RELEASE VIOLENT CAREER CRIMINAL. Joshua Sanchez-Lopez is a convicted felon with 35 prior arrests.”

She explained, “Judge Eric Goodman ordered him released with an ankle monitor. But Sheriff Kevin McMahill says he is NOT releasing Sanchez because he’s too dangerous. The Dept is now under threat of being sanctioned for contempt. Kudos to this sheriff! 👏”

Adding more context, a comment explained the background of the individual involved, saying, “Joshua Sanchez-Lopez, 36, a convicted felon with a staggering 35 prior arrests including convictions for involuntary manslaughter and drug offenses, found himself at the center of the dispute.”

“After his latest arrest on charges including grand larceny of a motor vehicle, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman set bail at $25,000 during a bench warrant hearing,” the same source noted. The commentator added, “He ordered Sanchez-Lopez released to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) high-level electronic monitoring program, essentially house arrest with an ankle monitor, if bond was posted.”

Reacting to the original post on the sheriff refusing to release the dangerous criminal, one commenter’s post about it read, “Same judge was found unconscious in a park bathroom. Says he doesn’t know if he was attacked or if it was an accident. I wonder if that park bathroom is a known gay meet up place?”
