On March 10, 2026, in Foley, Alabama, Daniel Hernandez-Lopez, a non-citizen, 32, was arrested for domestic violence strangulation after allegedly choking his wife during an argument. Deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find him unconscious after his 13-year-old stepson confronted him, allegedly lunged with a bicycle, and was punched repeatedly in the face by the teen until he passed out.

Hernandez-Lopez appeared intoxicated and possibly on narcotics. He was booked on March 11. No further charges against the boy. When the post reached social media, users celebrated the teen’s heroic intervention on behalf of his mother, particularly in facing down such and older and larger man.

Speaking about the terrifying event and what happened during it, along with how her son was able to get involved and eventually get the upper hand, the victim stated, “He was threatening to kill everyone in the house because he was high on drugs and he was drunk. So I was able to sneak away and give my son my phone to call the police.”

“I tried to calm him down, keep him calm as much as I could while my son was on the phone and give enough time for them to arrive,” she added. Continuing, she said, “He told me he wasn’t going anywhere. He was going to stay right there. He was worried about me.”

Describing the heroic actions of her son, who rescued her from the drunk non-citizen, the victim noted, “[He] was able to get him on the ground, and that’s when he punched him a few times, knocked him out until the police arrived. I was scared because I thought he was going to get hurt but he had the situation under control.”

Reacting to the viral story on social media, one woman stated, “Heart absolutely breaks for this 13-year-old boy in Alabama who had to watch his father, Daniel Hernandez-Lopez (who is not a U.S. citizen), allegedly try to strangle his mom.”

“No child should ever face that nightmare,” she added, “When the dad turned on him too, this brave kid fought back, punched multiple times, possibly knocked him out, and protected his mom until help arrived. He’s a hero who never should’ve had to be one. 💔”

In the comments, one user stated, “I hate that there are women who put their kids in these situations, the dudes don’t turn into monsters once they start living together—they just decide to ignore the gigantic red flags.”

“They corrupted him, he managed to rescue his mom and beat the h*ll out of his dad for assaulting her, he definitely shouldn’t have had to go through that but he was a true hero, sadly he was surely the one who suffered the most in that situation,” a comment read.

Praying for the heroic teen,  user added, “It’s truly lamentable that a teenager must go through this situation, having to strike his father to save his mother; may God protect him so that this situation does not take a toll on his mental health. Amen.”

Another responded, “This is what happens when you abuse and strangle mom: 13-year-old son steps up, knocks dad out cold. Two black eyes, busted lip, forehead gash. Daniel Hernandez-Lopez learned the hard way. Hero kid protected his family. 💪”
