An Army veteran who lost his stepfather due to an illegal immigrant drunk driver a year ago recently posted on social media that following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, he’s decided to leave the Democratic Party and become a Republican. The veteran, who is also a black man, stated that he came to the realization during the president’s speech that, despite Democratic Party claims, they do not care for him or the black community.
The veteran kicked off the video by stating that he sees no point in staying a Democrat anymore. He then describes what happened to his stepfather and how it has impacted his decision to switch to the GOP. “I lost my stepfather last year to an illegal immigrant driver who was using the name of a famous Ukrainian chess player as his name,” he said into the camera.
He continued, saying that neither he or his mother ever received any sympathy from the black community, who, by and large, has a history of voting Democrat in elections. “I’ve never gotten anything from the black community like, ‘Hey man, I’m sorry that you know, the people that we voted in and brought in with our policies caused you to lose, you know, cause your mother a lot of pain,'” the veteran said.
The veteran told his viewers that he expected to see some unity during the State of the Union address, that both parties would stand together, but was disappointed to see that he was wrong. He then pointed out that Democrats and liberals as a whole are obsessed with hating President Trump rather than the actual issues the black community faces on a daily basis.
“Y’all so fixated. This is why I’m leaving the Democrats. Y’all so fixated on hating Trump that you don’t care about nothing else going on around all those black people that y’all advocate for every four years when it’s election time. Some of us are victims of your policies. Some of us, some of us got a child that was murdered or grieved by one of these undocumented illegal immigrants that you let have cash bail,” the veteran explained.
He then went on to discuss Americans who have lost beloved family members and friends in car accidents caused by illegal aliens, many of whom cannot speak English and can’t read basic road signs or communicate with law enforcement when they are pulled over. “Now I just had to get it off my chest so you can understand what my mindset was when I clicked on the live stream,” he said, referencing the State of the Union.
The veteran also took an opportunity to slam Democrats for their support of transgender surgeries for minors, reiterating the same point millions of American parents have made over the last several years, that children who are young do not really understand the ramifications of life-altering procedures. However, the strongest moment for the man seemed to be when Democrats refused to stand up after the president asked a simple question about the main duty of government.

During the speech, President Trump asked everyone to stand up in the room if they believed the main purpose of government was to protect the people of the United States, meaning physical safety — like deporting criminal illegals — and from tyranny. Republicans stood. Democrats did not. This had a profound impact on the veteran.
“We see where our country is at. It’s clear and evident that y’all don’t want to see nothing prosperous. Y’all rather see the country tank and go into ruin under Trump, just so y’all can have media talking points to bring it up,” he continued. The video concludes with the veteran saying, “I’m done arguing. Stay over there and be a Democrat donkey, and I’ll be the black conservative elephant.”
