“Always a Democrat Until He Chose to Run”: RINO Senator Refusing to Push Forward the SAVE Act Gets Skewered Online for His Opportunistic Embracing of the GOP [WATCH]

Sen. John Curtis (R-UT), who many within the conservative movement consider to be a Republican In Name Only (RINO), recently posted a video on social media platform X, where he stated his high and low moments of the week, which did not garner the kind of response he was likely hoping for. In fact, many of the comments left on the post called him out for not supporting the SAVE Act and for using the GOP for his own personal gain.

Curtis started the video by praising the Winter Olympics, discussing how well the United States did during the global competition. “I want to give a shout out to the Olympics on so many levels. We did better than we had in a decade, bringing 33 medals home,” the Republican senator said. He then discussed the fact that 70 of the Olympians had some kind of connection to his home state of Utah.

“Over 70 of these Olympic athletes had ties to Utah. And, of course, the men’s and women’s hockey was just over the top exciting and good. Congratulations,” he continued. He then expressed his joy that the big victories during the competition ignited a spark of much-needed patriotism. “And I love that it’s ignited a string of patriotism here. Just a lot to celebrate there. Congratulations to all the athletes.”

“And of course, the Paralympics are coming up next week, and I’m sure that will be equally great as well.” Curtis then switched tracks and began talking about his lows for the week by focusing on the lack of discussion about the national debt and the negative impact it’s having on regular Americans. “The low is that we are just not talking here enough about the debt and deficit here in Washington, D.C.,” the Republican senator told his viewers.

He fired off a slight jab at President Donald Trump for not discussing the national debt during his State of the Union address in February 2026, saying, “It was hardly brought up in the State of the Union. And that debt is now at $38 trillion. This impacts not just the debt the way you think it would, but the economy, interest rates, and national security.”

He concluded the video by saying the legislature needs to talk about the issue more. “Got to start talking more about it here. Hope you all have a great weekend.” Many of the commenters on the post were not pleased with Curtis and they made their feelings known. One individual wrote, “There’s a huge disconnect here Senator, between you and your constituents. You need to kill the Zombie Filibuster. This is the single most important issue right now for all of us. Please don’t embarrass us.”

Another agreed with that post and delivered a stinging rebuke to the senator by writing, “It’s not possible for [Curtis] to avoid embarrassing himself and Utahns along with him.” A third expressed their curiosity about who was potentially behind Curtis and his seeming refusal to actually fulfill the will of the people he represents. “We agree — John Curtis who is pulling your strings — represent what Utahns elected you to do.”

One person called out Curtis for being a Democrat in practical terms, until he decided to get involved in politics, which is when he registered as a member of the GOP. “He was always a Democrat until he chose to run, then he registered as a Republican. Romney did the same. He was a solid Democrat in Massachusetts. Settled in Utah and switched in writing to Republican. RINOs will RINO.”
