Yankees Legend Wins GOP Congressional Primary

Former New York Yankees legend Mark Teixeira is now cruising on to the general election later this year after winning a big victory in the Republican primary race for Texas’ 21st Congressional District. Teixeira, who formerly played first base for the Yankees and played an important role in their winning the World Series in 2009, had a dominant showing in the election results from March 3, 2026.

The Republican congressional nominee steamrolled over his opponent, 61.4% to 10.1% when the race was finally called. Teixeira’s victory puts the stamp of approval on his political debut for the former three-time MLB All-Star, who is now heavily favored to stomp all over the Democratic Party challenger in one of the Lone Star State’s most reliably Republican districts.

“This is a huge victory, and I’m truly honored to have such strong support from the people of TX-21. Thank you!” Teixeira said in a post published on X. He then shared a second post thanking the coalition that helped him achieve his win. “I’m so grateful to everyone who voted, put in the work, donated, and especially prayed for us along the way,” he wrote. “My amazing family has been by my side every step of the way, my wonderful wife Leigh and our three kids, and I’m blessed by their support as I prepare to serve the country we love.”

“We’re going to run a strong race and win big in November, then hit the ground running to fight for Texas families,” he concluded, according to Trending Politics News. The 21st Congressional District is fairly large, covering the Hill Country located north of San Antonio and west of Austin, a part of Texas that is well known for being deep red.

Should Teixeira win in the midterm elections this fall, he will be replacing current Rep. Chip Roy, also a Republican. Roy is leaving the seat in order to campaign for Texas attorney general. Roy has already advanced to a runoff after the primary election on March 3. The former Yankee received a huge boost in February when President Donald Trump gave him his seal of approval.

The president described Teixeira as a “TOTAL WINNER, on and off the field.” Having Trump’s backing helped place the slugger as the MAGA favorite in the race and pushed his campaign over the edge leading into election night. When Teixeira first launched his campaign in August 2025, he made it clear he wasn’t a moderate or part of the establishment in the GOP. Nor was he simply a celebrity placeholder until someone else comes along.

He campaigned on working “with President Trump to secure the border, grow the economy, end radical woke indoctrination, promote American energy independence, defend life and the Second Amendment, end forever wars, and strengthen the military.” TPN noted that this was exactly the kind of platform Teixeira needed in order to win over primary voters who are tired of go-along politicians and want individuals representing them that will fight for their rights.

Teixeira played professional baseball in the MLB for 14 seasons, eight of them spent with the beloved New York Yankees. He quickly became a fan favorite and won the last championship of his career in 2009. He also had stints with the Texas Rangers, the Atlanta Braves, and Los Angeles, before he decided it was time to hang up his cleats in 2016.
