Things have gotten very, very entertaining as sanctuary city officials have been forced to reckon with the fact that the Trump Administration is not giving up on tackling the massive problem of illegal immigration, and thus they and their cities will remain in the administration’s crosshairs for so long as they don’t repent and change course.
Such is particularly the case with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who has remained in freakout mode over the president’s long-lasting efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens from the sanctuary city of Chicago, a move which has caused a great degree of heartburn for Mayor Johnson.
He made his views on the matter quite clear during a Wednesday, February 25, appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press NOW,” during which he clutched his pearls and lost it over the president’s efforts to enforce immigration law, saying that the president is focused on dividing people by “whether they are documented or undocumented”. He also, absurdly, pushed for Trump to pass legislation to ensure a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens.
During that total meltdown on MS NOW, Mayor Johnson began by absurdly insisting that Trump’s decision to enforce immigration law is a “wedge” designed to divide Americans. The woke mayor said, “I think it’s a mistake for this President to continue to find wedge[s] to divide people in this country, right?”
Continuing, he went on to insist that Trump wanted to give illegal aliens citizenship he could, and thus he should do that, an obviously absurd argument. He said, “[I]f this President was serious about ensuring that we had a pathway to citizenship and to ensure that our borders are secure, he would use the fact that he controls every single level of government to put forth legislation that could do just that.”
Still not done, the woke mayor returned to the point of division, saying, “This President has demonstrated over and over again that he’s more interested in dividing people by race, by whether they are documented or undocumented, than he is motivated to actually unite people around the values that working people are concerned about.”

Mayor Johnson also ranted and rambled right after Trump’s State of the Union address, declaring, “Donald Trump and his allies, they know where our true strength lies. Our strength is in our solidarity with one another. And despite what the President has said tonight, the strength of our Union does not trickle down from the top, it is built from the ground up. When we come together, the promise of America can be realized.”
Continuing that speech, he absurdly insisted, “We need to stand together to ensure that we put an end to the mass deportations. We must put an end to and abolish ICE and say no to the dangerous escalations of the war against Black and brown people. And to demand that large corporations and the ultra-wealthy, they have to pay their fair share in taxes.”
He then said, “We will not bow, we will not cower, we will not submit to the tyranny that is coming from the White House. Because tyranny is a virus and we cannot allow it to take root because Trump’s war is a war on all of us. Chicagoans are meeting this moment, pursuing any means necessary to protect our residents. Since our fight began, I’ve said that if Congress will not hold Trump accountable, then Chicago will.”
