“Shameful”: Speaker Johnson Reveals Why He Didn’t Have Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar Kicked Out of the House Over Their Rude Heckling of President Trump [WATCH]

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) made an appearance on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s program where he discussed President Donald Trump’s epic State of the Union speech on February 24, 2026, particularly focusing on the antics of left-wing Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). During the president’s speech, Omar and Tlaib heckled Trump from their seats when he started hammering on the rampant fraud in Minnesota perpetrated by many in the Somali community.

However, the heckling was drowned out by the patriotic shouts of the Republican majority, who got to their feet and began shouting “U-S-A.” The pair of lawmakers looked to be on the verge of tears as the chanting continued. The two soon exited the event, clearly defeated. Hannity then asked Johnson why he didn’t just eject Omar and Tlaib from the event.

Johnson’s reply started by calling the behavior of the two congresswomen a “shameful display,” revealing that he was close to giving them both the boot, but after President Trump’s masterful handling of the situation, decided to take a different approach. “You know, it was shameful, really, and I came this close to stopping them,” he told Hannity.

But then the speaker decided it would be better for the actions of the Democratic lawmakers to speak for themselves, highlighting how well the president responded to the heckling and what it revealed about the character of the Democratic Party. “We could have probably ejected them from the floor. But, you know, I thought, let them, let their actions speak for themselves.”

“The president handled it so well, of course, and if they’d gone a step further, we probably would have ejected them,” Johnson continued during the interview. He went on to state that it was good for the American people to see the shame Democrats like Omar and Tlaib bring on their party and to see the vast difference between them and the current GOP.

“But I think it was good for them to be there. I think it’s good for the American people to see the shame that they brought upon their party and upon themselves, and what a stark contrast between them and the Republican Party. We’re standing and cheering for all these great Americans who deserve all this attention tonight,” he said, going on to add, “the brave law enforcement officers, military officials, who received all the medals and honors tonight, the victims of crime.”

Johnson then said that the event highlighted how the GOP is on the “right side” of the issues facing the country and how Democrats simply aren’t, pointing out that the values the left stands for are in direct opposition to those of the GOP and America’s best interests. “I mean, we’re on the right side of common sense, on law and justice, on security and American dominance and strength. And the Democrats stand for exactly the opposite of all that.”

“Their record shows it and their actions tonight, I think, really brought some shame on their party,” he concluded. Earlier in the evening, as President Trump was making his way to the podium to deliver his address, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) held up a protest sign and started to cause a scene. His actions were a step too far for Republicans who promptly escorted him out of the House chamber, according to The Hill.
