Former President Barack Obama, along with former White House adviser Susan Rice, reportedly “broke down and cried” after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was soundly defeated by President Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, according to information shared on social media platform X by RealClearInvestigations senior reporter Paul Sperry.
In his post, Sperry stated that over a thousand “hours of new audio and video compiled by Columbia University in cooperation with the Obama Foundation” reveal that both Obama and Rice were “so distraught” by Trump taking home the victory over Clinton in 2016. Sperry’s post also reveals that the pair considered Trump to be a “con man” and a “clown.”
“BREAKING: President Obama and his National Security Adviser Susan Rice were so distraught after Trump won in 2016 they literally broke down and cried in front of White House staff, according to 1,100 hours of new audio and video compiled by Columbia University in cooperation with the Obama Foundation,” Sperry’s post alleged.
“After all they’d built, they feared their accomplishments were ‘at risk’ of being torn down by a ‘con man’ and a ‘clown,’” Sperry continued. He then said, “Ergo, Trump had to be stopped?” Another report that was published by The Western Journal noted that “Sperry did not indicate whether the audio would be released publicly or whether transcripts would be made available:”
“Trump’s 2016 win over Democrat Hillary Clinton stunned Washington’s political class and sparked an effort to undermine Trump before he ever entered office in 2017,” The WJ added in its report. A new interview archive that was uncovered showed Obama and his administration were highly emotional over their party’s loss, going on to note they didn’t view Trump as being a serious candidate for the presidency.
David Axelrod, a former adviser for then-President Obama, spoke about an incident that occurred during a White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2011, where he allegedly overheard Trump “bragging to other attendees” about how he was “in front of the polls.” Axelrod then revealed that neither he nor anyone else in the Democratic Party believed Trump would actually be a serious opponent and that he would ultimately become president.
“I kind of chuckled at it and went to my seat,” Axelrod recounted. “I don’t think any of us really anticipated that Donald Trump would be a serious candidate for president, much less president.” So distraught over Trump’s unexpected victory was Hillary Clinton that they attempted to undermine his win before he entered office in 2016.

In 2025, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued a report called, “Declassified Evidence of Obama Administration Conspiracy to Subvert President Trump’s 2016 Victory and Presidency.” According to Tulsi Gabbard, the current Director of National Intelligence, the whole Russian collusion hoax was part of the effort to destroy Trump’s presidency before it started.
“There is irrefutable evidence detailing how President Obama and his national security team directed the creation of an Intelligence Community Assessment that they knew was false, promoting the contrived narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help President Trump win, as though it were true,” she said.
According to the WJ report, Gabbard then said, “The documents we released shows how they did it: manufacturing findings from shoddy sources, suppressing evidence that disproved their false claims, disobeying IC tradecraft standards, and withholding the truth from the American people.”
