Trump Cracks Down to Stop Illegal Aliens from Using Public Housing

In an absolutely massive move made by the Trump Administration’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorities, a new rule has been issued to firmly and totally prevent illegal aliens in America from gaining access to taxpayer-funded housing meant for low-income Americans, such as Section 8 housing vouchers and developments.

Such is what HUD issued on Thursday, February 19, declaring that it isnow requiring proof of American citizenship or eligible immigration status for those who want to access such aid, firmly ensuring that illegal aliens will not be able to access it. Given the changes the administration is trying ot make to deport public charges, it seems likely legal immigrants will soon be able to as well.

In any case, announcing the titanic rule change, in the notice that was released on Thursday, February 19, HUD announced, “Section 214 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1980, as amended (“Section 214”), prohibits the Secretary of HUD from making financial assistance available to persons other than United States citizens or certain categories of eligible noncitizens in HUD’s public and specified assisted housing programs.”

Continuing, it provided that it is now moving to ensure that US citizenship proof is shown by those trying to access such programs, saying, “This proposed rule would revise HUD’s Section 214 implementing regulations to require the verification of U.S. citizenship or the eligible immigration status of all applicants and recipients of assistance under a covered program regardless of age.”

Still not done, it noted that it will start cutting off those who are trying to get verified rather than let them continue indefinitely, saying, “The proposed rule would also make prorated assistance a temporary condition pending verification of eligible status of all family members, where permitted by statute, as opposed to under HUD’s current regulations where prorated assistance could continue indefinitely.”

Concluding, that section of the statement noted that this is a major move to align HUD’s policies with Trump’s policies, saying, “These amendments would bring HUD’s regulations into greater alignment with the wording and purpose of Section 214 and align with the current Administration’s priorities and regulatory reform efforts.”

Commenting on what his department aims to accomplish with this recent rule change strategy, HUD Secretary Scott Turner explained that HUD is shutting off a loophole that illegal aliens have long and unconscionably been able to use to secure public housing assistance. About two percent of illegal alien households are estimated to be on public assistance.

Commenting on the matter to Politico, HUD Secretary Turner vowed that the days of illegal aliens pilfering the American welfare system are over and such things will not be tolerated. He said, “Under President Trump’s leadership, the days of illegal aliens, ineligibles, and fraudsters gaming the system and riding the coattails of American taxpayers are over.”

Still not done, Turner explained to Politico that for years American policy has not helped Americans and has instead helped illegals, and that such days are now over. He said, “We have zero tolerance for pushing aside hardworking U.S. citizens while enabling others to exploit decades-old loopholes.”
