Republican Candidate and His Family Shot at In “Targeted” Attack on Their Home

In a horrible incident from the North Carolina town of Huntersville, a Republican local political candidate and his family were attacked in a drive-by shooting that appears to have been intentionally targeting them, something the police later confirmed, with the attack presumably occurring for political reasons.

The candidate’s name is Aaron Marin. He is a Republican, the only Republican running in Mecklenburg County, in fact, and is running for the District 1 seat for the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. He was at home with his wife and the two children when the drive-by shooting occurred, but fortunately, no one was harmed.

Announcing the horrible incident in a terrifying post on Facebook in which he described what happened and thanked the local police for their quick response time, he said, “Last night, while I am running again for County Commissioner, our home was struck by multiple gunshots. The shots were intentionally directed only at our house.”

Continuing, the candidate explained that the incident was terrifying, but fortunately no one was harmed. He wrote, “At the time, I was inside with my wife and our two young sons. By God’s grace, we are all safe and unharmed — but as a husband and father, there are no words to describe the shock of hearing gunfire directed at your home.”

Then, noting that the fact that the incident occurred at all was a horrible shock given just how safe and strong he had thought the community in which he lived was, he said, “We are deeply shaken and stunned that something like this could happen in Huntersville — the community where we are raising our family and have always believed to be safe and strong.”

But, thanking the police for how well they have done in responding to the incident, he said, “The Huntersville Police Department and Crime Scene responded immediately. We are grateful for their swift response and the professionalism of our local law enforcement. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from speculation and allow law enforcement to complete their work.”

Adding to that, he argued that there is no situation in which political violence is in any way acceptable, saying, “Violence has no place in our community or in our political process. Differences must be resolved peacefully, through dialogue and the democratic process — not through violence.”

Concluding, he vowed to not let the horrible shooting incident intimidate him or force him out of the race, saying, “I will not be intimidated. My commitment to serving Mecklenburg County and protecting our community remains stronger than ever. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support and prayers.”

It was later revealed that the police believe the attack to be, as Marin indicated in the post, a “targeted attack” on the candidate. Such is what conservative political news commentator Martin Van Swol noted on X, saying, “Local police have just confirmed that the shooting of a Republican County Commissioner’s home in Charlotte NC was a TARGETED ATTACK.” Watch Marin comment on the incident here:
