In a boon for the GOP, on January 26, 2026, Iowa State Rep. Jennifer Konfrst (D), representing District 32, announced she is suspending her campaign for the U.S. House in Iowa’s competitive 3rd Congressional District. Konfrst endorsed State Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott (D-District 14) as the Democratic candidate to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Zach Nunn in the general election. While this district has featured close races, many see this move as benefiting the Republican candidate.
In any case, the Democrat posted a statement on social media which began, “A year ago this month, I decided to run for Congress to help bring balance back to DC and bring my working-class Iowa roots to the job. I traveled the district… and spent the requisite hours endlessly calling donors to ask for money.”
Getting to the point, she added, “I’m deeply proud of the campaign we’ve run, but I no longer believe it’s in the best interest of Iowans for me to stay in this race. I’m looking forward to serving in the Iowa legislature and working for my constituents.”
“My heart is full as I end this chapter, bolstered by folks from across the district who showed up for me… To the volunteer crew who stuffed envelopes and drove me to all corners of the district and collected thousands of signatures for my candidacy – you’re amazing,” the failed Democrat added.
Building on this point, she added, “To my campaign team – official and unofficial – your belief in me humbles me and inspires me to do better. To my friends and colleagues who thought I was nuts but stood by me and boosted me up – thank you.”
Making himself look good, the Democrat asserted, “From the beginning, my primary mission has been to bring some balance back to our state. I’m a sixth generation Iowan and I’ve spent most of my life in Iowa. I love this state, even when it has disappointed me in recent years. I want Iowa to be a kinder place to live and raise a family.”
“I want it to be a place where working class Iowans aren’t crushed by costs and struggling to get by. I want it to be a place where young Iowans, like my own kids and my students, can build a future for themselves. That’s still my goal, and I’m ready to explore ways to do that,” the politician complained.

Attacking the president, she claimed, “President Trump, enabled by Republican Congressman Zach Nunn, has unleashed an armed mob on American citizens, increased prices for groceries and utilities and engaged in unprecedented levels of corruption.”
Turning to cheap political theatre, Konfrst whined, “We must elect Democrats to the House and Senate in November to stop the chaos, fear and economic destruction – and this work begins in Iowa. I will be in this fight with you to elect Democrats, here at home in Polk County and across the whole state of Iowa.”
Concluding her comments, she added, “My first step forward is to endorse Sarah Trone Garriott as our candidate to flip this Congressional seat in the general election and defeat Zach Nunn. I look forward to being represented by a Democrat in Congress at this time next year.”
Watch another Democrat retire, this one in utter disgrace:
