Things did not go well at all for far-left “Squad” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) when she was asked about what America should do if the People’s Republic of China were to choose to launch a full invasion of the island of Taiwan, on which the Republic of China is based. Rep. AOC refused to give a straight answer, instead stumbling over her words.
As background, America has long had a somewhat ambiguous position as regards Taiwan, as the country is a longtime American ally and is an anti-communist power that helps America hem in the PRC, but also is a country that America maintains some strategic ambiguity toward so as not to lead to an open breach with the PRC.
However, that ambiguity has been placed under increasing strain as the relative military disparity between the Taiwanese and Communist Chinese has grown in the PRC’s favor, making a successful invasion not blocked by American aid something that looks much more likely to be successful, and as its dominance of the semiconductor industry has made Taiwan both more important to protect and a more valuable and tempting target.
So, members of Congress should at least have an answer about what America’s position toward it should be, particularly when at an international security conference, which AOC did not have. Instead, when asked by a reporter what America’s response to an invasion would be during a town hall at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, February 13, AOC mumbled and stumbled over her words in disastrous fashion.
That embarrassing moment for the woke congresswoman came when a reporter at the town hall asked her, “Would and should the U.S. actually commit U.S. troops to defend Taiwan if China were to move?” Such a question is critical, as that is a thought on the mind of countless American allies and enemies alike.
Rep. AOC didn’t have a good answer ready. Instead, she started mumbling and rambling, using “um” repeatedly and awkwardly as she barely managed to form even a thought resembling a sentence. She said, “Um, you know, I think that this is such a, you know, I think that this is a um — this is, of course, a, um, very long-standing, um, policy of the United States.”
Continuing, the congresswoman didn’t give an answer, instead saying that America wants to avoid a conflict because of economics, saying, “And I think what we are hoping for is that we want to make sure that we never get to that point, and we want to make sure that we are moving in all of our economic research and our global positions to avoid any such confrontation — and for that question to even arise.”

Predictably, even moderate conservatives skewered her for the terrible answer. For example, National Review reporter John Fund said, “Without a script and preprogrammed talking points, AOC is an exposed lifeboat at sea. Please run for president in 2028. You’ll make Kamala look like a savant.”
