WATCH: DHS Blitz Into Sanctuary State Results in Thousands of Arrests as Sanctuary Mayor Goes Ballistic

Shortly before Border Czar Tom Homan revealed that Operation Metro Surge is drawing to a close because it has been satisfactorily concluded, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a press statement that showed thousands of nasty criminals have been taken off the street by the operation. Predictably, the sanctuary jurisdiction leaders went ballistic over the situation.

As background, the Trump Administration launched Operation Metro Surge to target illegal immigration and migrant-connected fraud in Minnesota, problems that rose to the fore because of the revelations of massive fraud in the state involving Somali migrants. The operation lasted for months, and was characterized by big successes for the federal authorities as leftists in the state melted down about the blitz.

Announcing the operation’s major success in early February, DHS said, in a press release, “The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced law enforcement arrested more than 4,000 illegal aliens, including violent criminal illegal aliens, since Operation Metro Surge began in Minnesota. Yesterday’s arrests included criminals convicted of sexual conduct with a minor, domestic assault, and assault. ”

Continuing, the press release went on to identify some of the most notorious criminals arrested as part of the operation, saying that “Some of the criminals arrested during Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota yesterday include: Gerson Leonel Orellana Torres, a criminal illegal alien from Honduras convicted of domestic abuse, disorderly conduct, and driving while intoxicated.”

Adding to that, it gave a few more examples of the horrific criminal illegal aliens who have been arrested during the surge, noting that it arrested “Daniel Ivan Gonzalez-Alarcon, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico arrested for assault/domestic battery, larceny, driving under the influence, and possession of drugs”, “Jose Alejandro Rivera-Pineda, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador convicted of trespassing”, and “Cristian Israel Gomez, an illegal alien from Ecuador, convicted of driving under the influence.”

Commenting on the mission’s major and massive success, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, “Despite coordinated attacks of violence against our law enforcement, our officers have made more than 4,000 arrests of illegal aliens including murderers, pedophiles, rapists, gang members, and terrorists in Minnesota since Operation Metro Surge began.”

Continuing, she added, “We need sanctuary politicians to cooperate with us by notifying us before releasing public safety threats back onto the streets to commit more crimes and create more victims. We will not back down from our mission to remove criminal illegal aliens from American neighborhoods.”

Despite the sorts of awful criminals ICE was capturing during the operation, the state and local leftist officials remained staunchly opposed to its mission and threw hissy fits about what it was up to. Leading the charge on that front was Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who called on his police to “fight” ICE agents.

He said, “We’re in a position right now where we have residents that are asking the very limited number of police officers that we have to fight ICE agents on the street to stand by their neighbors. We cannot be at a place right now in America, where we have two governmental entities that are literally fighting one another. Why are we put in this position? We’re put in this position because we have approximately 600 police officers in Minneapolis, far fewer, that are able to work at any given time, and there are approximately 3000 ICE agents in the area, 3000.”
