Tom Sizemore is an actor who is probably best known for portraying the character Mike Horvath in Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.” He has recently been hospitalized due to a brain aneurysm and is in critical condition.
News on that comes from Fox News Digital, which reported that “A representative for the actor confirmed that the actor had suffered a brain aneurysm at his home and is in the intensive care unit.” That representative told Fox News Digital, when speaking about Horvath’s condition, that “He is in the hospital. His family is aware of the situation and are hoping for the best. It is too early to know about [a] recovery situation as he is in critical condition and under observation.”
The Hollywood Reporter added a few more details on what happened to Sizemore and the condition in which he was found, saying:
Sizemore was found at his Los Angeles home Sunday around 2 a.m. unconscious after he had collapsed following the medical emergency. After he was found, the actor was transported to an L.A. hospital, where he is now currently under observation in the intensive care unit. Sizemore’s rep says his family is “aware and waiting for updates.”
Fox News Digital also reported that Sizemore has been fighting substance abuse problems and trying to get sober, saying:
In an interview with Fox News Digital in 2021, Sizemore shared his commitment to getting sober, saying “I’ve been trying to get sober since 1991 … It became really big news much later than that, but I was trying to stop. I’ve had a problem for a long time. I had periods, long periods, of sobriety and I would end up relapsing.”
“I still go to meetings and work my steps, but I had reached a place in my life where I knew I had to stop,” he explained. “I couldn’t be arrogant anymore. If I wanted to reach a nice and pleasant old age, I had to stop. And if I wanted to watch my kids grow up, I needed to reach a place where I knew it was over.”
“So far, it has remained over,” he noted. “I still have to do my daily inventory and show up.
For those who haven’t seen Saving Private Ryan in a while, the movie’s wiki has a helpful reminder of who Mike Horvath (the character Sizemore played) is, saying:
Technical Sergeant Michael “Mike” Horvath was an American soldier serving in the 2nd Rangers Battalion of the United States Army during World War Two who held the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a close friend of Captain John H. Miller, serving alongside him in both Africa and Italy before the invasion of France. He was portrayed by actor Tom Sizemore. He served as the deuteragonist of the film Saving Private Ryan.
Horvath appeared to be the closest thing Miller may have had to a friend, joking in battle when Miller draws fire that Mrs Miller, his mother, would be very cross if she saw him do that. Miller dryly retorted that he thought Horvath was his mother and someone who Miller would refer to by first name and always ask for opinions on matters at hand.
