In a typical attempt to stir up controversy and diminish the Trump Administration’s achievements, a journalist questioned Border Czar Tom Homan on potential due process issues for U.S. citizen children in rapid deportations, citing the Kilmar Abrego-Garcia case as an “error.”
Firing right back, Homan rejected the term “error,” calling it an “oversight” where changed facts were set aside in a prior withholding order. He emphasized that illegal immigrants with U.S. citizen children bear responsibility for family separation risks by violating laws, and blasted the Biden administration.
Cynically attempting to entrap the border Czar, the journalist began, “Are you concerned that due process, at least for the US citizen children, is being flouted, and that the speed at which the enforcement is being done could lead to errors, as was the case in the Kilmar Abrego-Garcia case? And then also, if you could give an update on the deportation numbers under this administration and whether you’re pleased with them?”
Starting off with a sharp and strong rebuttal, Homan countered, “I don’t accept the term ‘error’ and Abrego Garcia; there was an oversight. If there was a withholding order. But things had changed. The facts around the withholding order have changed. He is now a terrorist which holding order set aside in the game he was fearing from being removed [to] El Salvador no longer exists.”
Still not done, he added, “So the facts around that case are totally different. I’ll let the lawyers litigate that. But as far as the US three USC kids, I’d said from day one if you enter this country legally, it’s a crime if you remain in this country illegally and you ignore a judge’s order about itself, about deporting if you choose, have US citizen child, knowing you’re in this country legally, you put yourself in that position.”
He still wasn’t done tearing into Garcia. “You put your family in that position. What we did is remove children with their mothers who requested the children depart with them. This was a parental decision,” Homan pointed out, “[A] parental one, parenting one-on-one. The mothers made that choice, and I tell you, what if we didn’t do it? The story today is a joint administration separating families again. No, we’re keeping families together.”
Additionally, he noted, “So when a parent says, ‘I want that. I want my two-year-old baby to go with me,’ and we made that happen. They weren’t deported. We don’t deport US citizens. The parents made that decision, not the United States government.”

Continuing his diatribe and embarrassing the work journalists, the border czar said, “This administration is doing the right thing. Every public safety threat we arrest from this country and move them. This country is much safer, so parents will make a decision. What happens…having US citizen child does not make you immune from our laws.”

Bringing his comments to a close, he noted, “I’m happy with our numbers…The ICE arrest removals are far beyond Biden. But I read the media, ‘oh, ICE, the deportations are behind the Biden administration.’ Well, why? Because they counted border removals. We don’t have 10.5 million people crossing the border.”
