The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it has arrested 55 people on February 4, 2026, in a major takedown of a drug trafficking ring located in Georgia that has been filling U.S. streets with dangerous narcotics, including fentanyl. Officials stated that the organization, which is connected to a Chinese supplier, was responsible for sending massive quantities of these deadly substances throughout the state and across the country in what the organization referred to as Operation Powder Island.
Investigators with the bureau also identified a suspect who was allegedly communicating with an overseas supplier based in China, demonstrating that modern-day drug trafficking networks have taken advantage of technological advancements in order to extend their reach internationally. The takedown comes as the FBI has been working tirelessly to staunch the flow of fentanyl into the United States. The synthetic opioid has led to an overdose crisis in the country that has gone on for years and claimed countless lives.
FBI Atlanta, working along with FBI Jacksonville, FBI Charlotte, FBI Dallas, and FBI Buffalo, executed a total of 56 federal arrest warrants on narcotics and gun charges. A total of 54 individuals were taken into custody across several jurisdictions, with an additional suspect who is now scheduled to surrender to authorities next week and another expected to be taken into custody after returning from work-related travel.
According to Fox News, law enforcement officials seized a firearm during the arrests, but no search warrants were executed during the operation. Tactical support for the operation was provided by SWAT teams from both FBI Atlanta and FBI Jacksonville. FBI Director Kash Patel released a statement about the arrests and heaped credit for the operation’s success to President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“Under President Trump’s leadership with Attorney General Bondi, this FBI has initiated an aggressive, nationwide takedown of drug trafficking organizations at levels never seen, taking over 30% more deadly narcotics off the streets in 2025 than the year prior,” Patel explained.
He continued, “Today’s arrest of 55 individuals is the latest in our work to crush the drug trafficking industry that preys on so many Americans, eliminating not just the traffickers themselves but also the funding and supply networks that make the criminal activity possible.”
Patel then took the opportunity to praise the Atlanta team for their “outstanding work” with local law enforcement partners. He then added that the FBI would be continuing its “24/7, full-throttle mission to save lives and take these narcotics off the street each and every day.” Brunswick Police Chief Angela Smith remarked that the operation shows local residents that law enforcement is taking action to deal with crime in the community.

“Citizens have asked, ‘What are we going to do about crime?'” Smith said. “This operation is indicative of the work being done. Residents and visitors deserve to feel safe, and we will continue to dismantle criminal elements in our community.” Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said the case demonstrates the importance of agencies working together.
“This investigation required time, patience, precision and partnership,” Hosey said. “It reflects what happens when agencies work together with one mission: protecting the people of Georgia and upholding public safety.” The drug ring that was dismantled is known to traffic fentanyl, methamphetamine, MDMA, cocaine, crack cocaine, and marijuana, according to CBS News.
