In a controversial appearance on CNN, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) defended Haitian immigrants in Springfield under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), stating that they legally fill essential jobs, boost economic growth, start businesses, and account for over half of Ohio’s recent population growth.
Additionally, the alleged Republican warned that ending TPS would devastate the local and state economy. Critics blasted him as a “RINO” for prioritizing foreigners over Americans, and for cynically viewing the nation as a “balance sheet.”
Beginning his traiterous screed about keeping Haitian migrants in the country, DeWine claimed, “A big consensus for that, I think we’re, you know, we start losing people, is when we’re looking at people who are working hard every day. Vacations in Springfield are one example of that under temporary protected status.”
Still not done, he alleged, “They’re here legally, and they’re working and what the employers have told me time and time again is we hired Haitians year to three years ago, frankly, because we couldn’t fill these jobs, and Springfield is actually I look at, put my governor’s hat on now, from the point of view of economic development, Springfield has been moving forward.”
Doubling down on these absurd assertions, the RINO said, “Springfield is coming back. Part of the reason they’ve been able to come back is because of these Haitians who are there. They’re not only working, but of course, they’re spending money in the community.”
“There’s been businesses started. Restaurants have started. And if we lose all those, if they lose Temporary Protected Status and they no longer can work and companies can’t employ them,” claimed the out-of-touch governor.
Finally bringing his tenous claims to a close, Governor DeWine stated, “That’s a blow to the economy. It’s a blow to the state. If you look at Ohio’s growth, just one more statistic, if you look at Ohio’s growth in the last few years, over half that growth has come from immigrants who are here, and they’re working, and they’re helping the economy grow and helping us.”

Responding to the outrageous video, one conservative posted, “Ohio’s ‘Republican’ Governor Mike DeWine says that we can’t end TPS for Haitians because Ohio’s economy depends on foreigners,” adding, “The reason we’ve gotten to where we are is that too many ‘Republicans’ simply view our nation as numbers on a balance sheet.”
Similarly annoyed, a commenter on the post noted, “No, it doesn’t depend on foreigners. He won’t tell you that he’s knee deep in the political corruption himself. He’ll be one of those in the prison chow line when it’s all said and done.”
“Claiming that you need workers because the positions can’t be filled with domestic workers while having unemployed citizens is a huge self own. You’re admitting that the government dropped the ball, yet they pass it off as a problem beyond anyone’s ability to fix,” one conservative quipped.
