In yet another horrible and infuriating incident out of the DC Swamp, it has been discovered that there was a “prolific” leaker embedded within the civil service who was leaking details of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) immigration raids, allegedly to a New York Times journalist, putting the lives of federal agents at risk.
As background, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol, along with DHS agents generally, such as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) personnel, have been plagued with leaks that have revealed such things as where they will be raiding, what they are looking for, and the like, with the mainstream media helping push those leaks.
That has, DHS alleges, made the job even more dangerous for the agents involved, as those who they are targeting potentially have more opportunities to fight them, having been forewarned by the leaks, and protests and riots full of leftist agitators have time to spin up and attack agents, as we saw happen in Minnesota. That is particularly awful as it has come as federal agents have faced a significant uptick in the number of attacks.
Now, one of the leakers has been caught, as Noem revealed in a powerful post on X, in which she also called out the New York Times journalist, Shawn Cohen, who she alleges was involved with the leaking scandal. She began, “.@spccohen is down another source— we just caught another prolific leaker putting our @DHSgov law enforcement at risk as they already face 8,000% increase in death threats against them.”
Continuing, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem revealed in the post that the leaker, who she declined to name or give many details about the identity of, has not just been caught but is being referred to the Department of Justice to face full criminal prosecution. She said, “I plan to refer this individual to @TheJusticeDept for criminal prosecution.”
Concluding the post, she noted that everyone who leaks will be tracked down and punished, regardless of their status within the civil service. She said, “We are agnostic about your standing, tenure, political appointment, or status as a career civil servant—we will track down leakers and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
This isn’t the first time that Secretary Noem has revealed that leakers within the DHS have been caught putting the lives of federal agents at risk. For example, in an incident that came just weeks after President Trump was inaugurated, she revealed that two leakers had been caught, and would be prosecuted with a vengeance for their leaking.

She said, on that point, at the time, “We have identified two leakers of information here at the Department of Homeland Security who have been telling individuals about our operations and putting law enforcement lives in jeopardy. We plan to prosecute these two individuals and hold them accountable for what they’ve done.” She added, “We’re going to continue to do all that we can to keep America safe.”
