Epstein-Tied Politician Resigns from Legislature as Police Begin Investigation

Lord Peter Mandelson, former UK ambassador to the US and Blair-era politico referred to as the “Prince of Darkness,” has been forced to step down from the House of Lords effective February 4, 2026, after DOJ-released Epstein documents revealed emails allegedly showing him sharing confidential UK government information with the infamous Jeffrey Epstein, which appears to have been used for insider trading.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Police launched a misconduct in public office investigation following a government referral and reports. Questions are swirling around PM Keir Starmer’s appointment of him despite his known ties to Epstein, with potential fallout for Starmer.

Speaking to the Labour Party, Mandelson said, “I have been further linked this weekend to the understandable furore surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and I feel regretful and sorry about this…While doing this I do not wish to cause further embarrassment to the Labour Party and I am therefore stepping down from membership of the party.”

Responding to the scandal, Lord Speaker Forsyth stated,  “My Lords, given the public interest and for the convenience of the House, I have decided to inform the House that the Clerk of the Parliaments has today received notification from Lord Mandelson of his intention to retire from the House effective from 4 February.”

Met Commander Ella Marriott confirmed that there was an ongoing police investigation into the embattled politician. “I can confirm that the Metropolitan Police has now launched an investigation into a 72-year-old man, a former Government Minister, for misconduct in public office offences,” she said.

Building on this point, the law enforcement official stated, “The Met will continue to assess all relevant information brought to our attention as part of this investigation and won’t be commenting any further at this time.”

“We are aware of the further release of millions of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein by the United States Department of Justice. Following this release and subsequent media reporting, the Met has received a number of reports relating to alleged misconduct in a public office,” Marriott  clarified, “The reports will all be reviewed to determine if they meet the criminal threshold for investigation.”

Adding more detail, a high-ranking official from 10 Downing Street noted that the government is “ready to provide whatever support and assistance” the police need. “It is right for the police to determine whether to investigate, and the government stands ready to provide whatever support and assistance the police need,” the same source revealed.

Responding to the stunning Epstein ties, the Leader of the conservative party, Kimi Badenoch, reacted, “Keir Starmer has confirmed he knew about Mandelson’s continued relationship with the paedophile Epstein when he appointed him Ambassador. His catastrophic judgement has harmed the special relationship, endangered national security, and embarrassed our nation. No more cover up.”

Rising conservative star Connor Tomlinson let the corrupt politicians at the center of this scandal have it in a spirit post to X. “Starmer had to hide his hands and stop them shaking while talking about Peter Mandelson during PMQs. He knows this scandal could end his career,” Tomlinson declared.
