A 2010 clip of President Obama warning that halting deportations would cause a surge in illegal immigration has resurfaced and gone totally viral online amid the current debate over Trump’s ICE raids. The clip shows Obama rejecting calls to ignore laws or end deportations, emphasizing border control and accountability for illegal entry.
Ironically, many conservatives praised his reasonable comments in the video, something made all the more entertaining by Obama himself having disavowed his previous comments and joined the woke mob to attack Trump’s firm stance on the border. In his more recent remarks, Obama called for protests and resistance to ICE.
In the resurfaced video, Barack Obama, in a speech from 2010, stated, “There are those in the immigrants’ rights community who have argued, passionately, that we should simply provide those who are [here] illegally with legal status or at least ignore the laws on the books and put an end to deportation until we have better laws.”
“And often this argument is framed in moral terms: Why should we punish people who are just trying to earn a living?” he added, continuing, “I recognize the sense of compassion that drives this argument, but I believe such an indiscriminate approach would be both unwise and unfair.”
Then-President Obama went on declare, “Ultimately, our nation, like all nations, has the right and obligation to control its borders and set laws for residency and citizenship. And no matter how decent they are, no matter their reasons, the 11 million who broke these laws should be held accountable.”
However, recently, the former president posted, “More and more Americans are voicing their outrage at the tactics being deployed by federal agents in Minnesota. But it’s important to understand the broader implications of what this administration is doing, and the threat it poses to the basic freedoms of every American.”

Another out-of-touch message from the former president read, “For weeks now, people across the country have been rightly outraged by the spectacle of masked ICE recruits and other federal agents acting with impunity and engaging in tactics that seem designed to intimidate, harass, provoke and endanger the residents of a major American city.”
The controversial Democrat claimed, “These unprecedented tactics—which even the former top lawyer of the Department of Homeland Security in the first Trump administration has characterized as embarrassing, lawless and cruel—have now resulted in the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens.”
“This has to stop. I would hope that after this most recent tragedy, administration officials will reconsider their approach, and start finding ways to work constructively with Governor Walz and Mayor Frey as well as state and local police to avert more chaos and achieve legitimate law enforcement goals,” he said to conclude his post.
