In yet another entertaining moment for conservatives out of one of America’s most notorious and wokest sanctuary cities, far-left Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York (D) revealed that his city is now facing a financial crisis of a scope and scale not seen since the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009. Mayor Brandon Johnson has similarly warned that Chicago is facing such a crisis.
As background, President Trump has vowed to cut off the funding of Mamdani’s sanctuary city. Shortly after the woke mayor was elected, he said, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!”
Continuing, he noted that he does not want to pour taxpayer dollars down the drain of trying to fix a city that is run by, and being destroyed by, a communist. He said, “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad.”
Further, the president announced that all sanctuary cities will have their funding cut on February 1, saying, “EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY FIRST, NO MORE PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO STATES FOR THEIR CORRUPT CRIMINAL PROTECTION CENTERS KNOWN AS SANCTUARY CITIES. ALL THEY DO IS BREED CRIME AND VIOLENCE! If States want them, they will have to pay for them! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
Now, with taxpayers fleeing his already seemingly disastrous policies and staying away before he can hike taxes to even higher levels, Zohran Mamdani has announced that his infamously woke and mismanaged sanctuary city is facing a “fiscal crisis” of the sort not seen in nearly two decades.
He began by noting that the crisis is here and that the city is looking at what solutions are possible, though he did not indicate if he will back off of sanctaury policies so as to reaccess federal funding. He said, “We are speaking about a fiscal crisis at the scale greater than the Great Recession. And so there will not be one single thing that can answer that crisis.”
Continuing, Mamdani said that he and his government are looking for “savings and efficiencies”, though he didn’t say what those are and certainly didn’t indicate that he is backing off of his radical and highly expensive leftist agenda. He said, “It will require us to pursue every single avenue. That means looking inward into savings and efficiencies.”

He then concluded by indicating that he is going to hike taxes in the Big Apple yet further, something that many think will just exacerbate its major fiscal problems, as those who pay taxes instead of draining social services will just continue to flee. “That also means raising taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers, the most profitable corporations, and it means recalibrating the relationship with the state.”
