Fox News Channe’ has gotten yet more great news from the rating monitors, as Tucker Carlson, Greg Gutfeld, Laura Ingraham, and the co-hosts of “The Five” have all had smashingly successful programs as of late. Reporting on that, Mediaite said:
Fox News’s late-night comedy show, Gutfeld!, brought in 2.2 million total viewers on Tuesday night, beating its lead-in, The Ingraham Angle. Roseanne Barr joined Gutfeld! as a guest.
Gutfeld! was the 6th highest-rated show overall on cable news in total viewers and the 3rd highest-rated in the key 25-54 age demographic — behind Tucker Carlson and The Five — which was co-hosted by Greg Gutfeld.
In the 11 p.m. hour, Gutfled! crushed its cable news competition as CNN brought in only 371,000 total viewers and MSNBC scored 972,000.
And that’s just another week of great reviews for Fox News Channel. It did incredibly well the week before as well, as Mediaite reported on February 9th, noting that:
Fox News led cable news on Wednesday night with 4 shows raking in more than 3 million total viewers, while CNN never came close to cracking the million viewer mark.
Tucker Carlson led the ratings with 3.72 million total viewers, beating out The Five — which regularly lands atop the charts.
Jesse Watters came in third place with 3.16 million total viewers, while Sean Hannity came in fourth with 3.08 million total viewers.
MSNBC’s top-rated show was All in with Chris Hayes which brought in 1.66 million total viewers.
FNC’s outperformance, particularly that of Greg Gutfeld, has led to scrambling among its liberal competitors to find someone who can compete with FNC’s all-star lineup of late-night hosts. The Daily Mail, reporting on what’s going on at CNN as it struggles to compete, reports that “Brass at the famously progressive news network have reportedly floated names such as Bill Maher, Trevor Noah, Arsenio Hall, and Jon Stewart, as candidates, to offer a nontraditional, late-night-esque take on the day’s news. Fox News has found success with ‘Gutfeld!,’ the late-night comedy show hosted by Greg Gutfeld.” The Daily Mail also noted that CNN eventually settled on a CBS anchor named Gayle King, saying:
CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht has reportedly offered CBS’ Gayle King a weekly interview show on his ailing network.
According to a report from Puck News, Licht recently approached King, who current hosts CBS Mornings, to pitch her on his idea for her role at CNN.
Further, the Daily Mail reported that Maher will also be hosting a late night show on CNN, saying:
CNN will soon begin airing the post-show of HBO‘s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ as part of CEO Chris Licht’s measures to widen the network’s appeal.
Maher’s ‘Overtime,’ which features the host and his guests answering viewer questions each week, will air at 11.30pm eastern during ‘CNN Tonight‘ and will see Maher and guests discussing everything from politics to news of the day.
Licht, 51, sat down with the Los Angeles Times to give an update on how things at the network have been since he took over in May 2022, saying he is working swiftly to ‘broaden the appeal of our prime-time’ without offending the ‘core audience.’
And that terrific performance was happening in January too, as Forbes reported, saying “After The Five, the highest-rated shows of the week were Tucker Carlson Tonight (3.086 million viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (2.647 million viewers), Hannity (2.386 million viewers), and Special Report with Bret Baier (2.367 million viewers)—all airing on the Fox News Channel.”
Continuing, the same Forbes report noted that “In prime time, Fox News led the cable news networks with an average total audience of 1.996 million viewers—beating CNN and MSNBC combined. Overall, Fox had fully 92 of the 100 highest-rated cable news telecasts for the week. Among viewers 25-54, the demographic group most valued by advertisers, Tucker Carlson Tonight was first with 442,000 viewers, followed by The Five (374,000 viewers), Hannity (303,000 viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (266,000 viewers) and Special Report with Bret Baier (256,000 viewers).”
