In some more big news out of the Trump Administration, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who just announced he would not be running for governor again because of the Somali migrant fraud scandal, is under criminal investigation for his alleged role in the scandal.
Such is what Leavitt explained to Fox News Channel host Jesse Watters on his show “Jesse Watters Primetime” on the night of Monday, January 5, explaining that Gov. Walz is being investigated by FBI agents who are already on the ground in Minnesota, and will be held criminally liable for the massive fraud.
Beginning her commentary on the matter, Press Secretary Leavitt explained that the administration is surging as many personnel as it can into dealing with the matter, with those agents coming from a slew of agencies. She told Watters, “This is a all hands on deck across the entire government effort, we are surging resources.”
Continuing, Leavitt explained that thousands of investigative agents from DHS alone have been poured into the state to start cracking down on the fraud and fraudsters, noting, “You saw today, the Department of Homeland Security announced we have nearly 2000 agents from the Homeland Security Investigations team.”
Further, she described how FBI agents are there, and the administration is freezing funding for child and day care centers because of the fraud that has been discovered. She noted, “The FBI is on the ground, and we’re freezing money. HHS cut off funding for child care centers and for daycares. USDA, Secretary Rollins has been asking Governor Walz to see the recipients of SNAP in his state.”
Concluding, she noted that dealing with the fraud is a key focus and priority of the Trump Administration, which makes sense given the reasons it gives to crack down on immigration. She then further noted that Trump sees Minnesota Gov. Walz as being criminally liable here, and so the federal law enforcement and investigatory apparatus is examining exactly that.
Making those key points, points that are quite exciting to the MAGA base, she explained, “So this is all hands on deck. Rest assured, it’s a top priority for President Trump, and he believes that Governor Walz is criminally liable, and I think the Department of Justice is going to find out.”

Eric Daugherty, a conservative commentator on X, celebrated the news, saying, “🚨 BREAKING: In an enormous development, the Trump DOJ is launching an investigation into TIM WALZ for being CRIMINALLY LIABLE for the massive Somali fraud in Minnesota GOOD. LOCK THE TRAITOR UP!”
Commenters on his post largely agreed, saying things like “They need to go deeper than waltz. He’s complicit but the Buck doesn’t stop there. The entire DNC is in on this” and “Accountability feels like oppression to people who benefited.” Others questioned whether the DOJ would actually do anything this time around, leaving comments like “We’ll believe it when the useless DOJ actually holds someone accountable.”
