Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot feuded with U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino on X, ominously commenting that his “day of reckoning is fast approaching,” and labeling him a “glory hound” and claiming his agents’ actions are “unconstitutional and shameful.”
Kikcing off the interaction, Bovino had posted a video montage asserting federal agents would remain in Chicago “for years” to target criminal illegal aliens, despite local opposition. Jumping into the fight, Current Mayor Brandon Johnson endorsed naming a city snowplow “Abolish ICE,” prompting Bovino to suggest “Reality Check” instead. Johnson responded by correcting Bovino’s grammar and noting Chicagoans’ desire for agents to leave.
Starting off the online fight, Gregory Bovino quipped, “If you think we’re done with Chicago, you’d better check yourself before you wreck yourself. Don’t call it a comeback; we’re gonna be here for years.” Bitterly responding, Lori Lightfoot issued a bitter statement.
Lori Lightfoot, the far-left and bizarre-looking former mayor, responded by saying, “Glory hound Greg Bovino cannot resist acting a fool in the third largest media market. The actions of the CBP militia under his command have been unconstitional [sic] and shameful. Hey, Greg, your day of reckoning is fast approaching.”
Putting Lightfoot back in her place, Bovino responded, “Don’t worry, Chicago, we will be here for YEARS! Despite calls for violence against our agents, the brave men and women of the United States Border Patrol have come together and developed serious plans to help Chicago rid their streets of criminal illegal aliens. We work for YOU.”
Likewise, Brandon Johnson, the current mayor, offered his own anti-ICE comment. “‘Abolish ICE’ has my full endorsement for the name of one of Chicago’s next Snow Plows. Remember to submit your choice by January 10th, 2026!” he tweeted. Firing back, Bovino joked, “Oh oh, i’ve got a nomination for the mayor. Name the plow ‘Reality Check’ and paint it green while your [sic] at it. Johnson obsesses over Border Patrol it seems!!”
In a desperate attempt to regain the upper hand, Johnson issued a snippy comment in which he attempted to sound smart. The Chicago mayor doubled down on his pedantic comments, saying, “And reality check, Greg: Chicagoans vote on the snow plow names. The same people who want you out of our city.”

This is far from the only time Bovino has clashed with left-wing mayors. As we reported at the American Tribune, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss confronted the Border Patrol Chief during immigration raids, accusing agents of abuse, racism, and violence. Bovino defended operations as necessary for safety against violent illegal immigrants, thanked local police, and called it an “excellent day.”
Responding to a wave of violence committed by illegal immigrants, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss claimed, in the angry confrontation with Bovino, “I’m unaware of that happening.” U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino responded with a witty retort. “Well, that’s probably the problem,” he fired back.

Continuing the tense interaction, Mayor Biss qualified his statements. “The violence is unacceptable,” he choked out, obviously somewhat intimidated. Firing back, Bovino said, “Yeah, that’s why we’re here. That’s why we are in your community to hear what you need us to do when we are dealing with a violent situation or something like this where there should be no violence committed by those who shouldn’t be here in your community…That’s why we’re here because you’re not doing anything about it.”
