WATCH: Ilhan Omar Says She Doesn’t Regret Pushing the Program that Led to $250 Million of Primarily Somali Fraud in Minnesota Alone

In December 2025, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) faced scrutiny over her 2020 MEALS Act, which waived USDA oversight for child nutrition programs during COVID, enabling Minnesota’s $250M+ “Feeding Our Future” fraud scheme committed by the Somali community.

Confronted by reporters, she expressed no regrets, stating, “Absolutely not, it did help feed kids,” while countering ICE claims about her son’s alleged stop, and accusing crackdowns of terrorizing her community while refusing to accept responsibility.

To start the interaction, a reporter fired off several questions. “Do you regret pushing for that bill, the Meals Act? You think it led to the fraud? Congresswoman, the ICE Director is saying now that your son was not pulled over by ICE. He’s saying there’s no evidence. How do they know that? He didn’t specify, but he’s saying that he has documentation of all the people they pulled over.”

Rudely interjecting, the woke congresswoman stated, “He hasn’t been asking for that information. We haven’t gotten it from them. So if ICE is confirming now that they collect data and refusing to fight it to members of Congress, and that’s an interesting mission.”

Firing back, the reporter countered, He’s also saying that your anti-ICE rhetoric has put agents in danger. What’s your take on that? Your response to that?” Snapping, Omar responded, “Well, the crackdown has terrorized my community, so they need to stop you.”

Reacting to the clip on social media, one conservative stated, “Ilhan Omar introduced the MEALS Act of 2020. It led to $250 million of Fraud in Minnesota alone. Does she have regrets? “Absolutely not.” Omar needs to be investigated.”

Reacting to the post, one user stated, “None of this fraud was by accident. Ilhan Omar resettling in Minnesota and getting into elected office didn’t happen by accident. None of this was organic!” Agreeing, another added, “What’s to regret? She steals money from people she doesn’t care about and gives it to her tribe of people instead, and gets to walk around free of charge even though we all know this to be true? Why wouldn’t she feel untouchable.”

For context, this is far from the only time Omar has dismissed substantial claims of campaign fraud tied to Minnesota’s $1B+ Feeding Our Future fraud, mostly involving Somalis. In a recent media appearance, she responded to substantial allegations from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Starting off the tense interview on “Face the Nation,” Margaret Brennan asked about the significant fraud allegations surrounding her career. “We have a lot to get to with you, but I want to pick up on where the Treasury Secretary just left off. He alleged that people who were tied to you or your campaign were involved in this broad, brazen scheme to rip off the Minnesota state welfare system,” as he asked, “Do you want to respond to that? Do you know what he is referring to?”

Clearly annoyed, Omar retorted, “I really don’t, and I don’t think the Secretary himself understands what he’s referring to. We obviously had people who were able to donate to our campaign who were involved. We sent that money back a couple of years ago. And actually, I was one of the first members of Congress to send a letter to the Secretary of Agriculture asking them to look into what I thought was a reprehensible fraud that was occurring within the program.”
