A viral video from a Portland, Maine, Public Schools Board meeting shows the Pledge of Allegiance recited, followed by a bizarre land acknowledgment: recognizing the original inhabitants as the Wabanaki Confederacy tribes.
Pivoting, an administrator then states the district’s equity goal: “Land equity is achieved… when there are no identifiable differences in outcomes and experiences for any population.” Many users noted that several Somali/Muslim board members refused to participate in the pledge.
In any case, the video began innocently enough. “We’re going to do the Pledge of Allegiance
and the flag of the United States of America, which it stands for, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
However, the woke activists took the proceedings in a bizarre direction. “Portland Public Schools recognizes the original inhabitants of the land on which our city and schools stand, the Wiscasset, Maliseet, Micmac, Penobscot, and Passamaquoddy tribes, known collectively as the Wabanaki Confederacy, or people of the dawn,” the clip recorded.
Wrapping up this bizarre clip, one of the many liberal administrators pivoted to tired talking points, stating, “Land equity is achieved in the Portland Public Schools when there are no identifiable differences in outcomes and experiences for any population.”
Providing much-needed context, a popular post on social media read, “Portland School – Muslims Refuse Pledge Allegiance. After the pledge, the school board goes into ‘stolen land recognition claims’ – which the foreigners on the board support. After that, they go into a post-modern Marxist mission for: EQUITY “, equality of outcome.”
Additionally, the same source noted that more of these bizarre events are likely unless the Democrats are checked. “Buckle up, Maine. This ain’t the state you grew up in & it’s not going to go away. The Marxist/Muslim unholy alliance is here & infiltrating all our institutions,” the user added.

Building on this point, the post read, “More and more Leftist school boards are adopting the Decolonization Initiative of ‘stolen land recognition’ like Canada & Australia do. The purpose of this is to eventually justify stripping away land from locals, like they recently did in Canada.”
Concluding, the conservative wrote, “Examples of EQUITY: ‘Equality of Outcome’ is ‘Restorative Justice’ where DAs will give lighter sentences or none at all to certain racial groups & harsher sentences for others. This also applies to everything from grading to grants to opportunities,” quipping, “In Socialist Maine – Some groups are more equal than others.”
Reacting to this comprehensive breakdown, one user noted, “This is like inviting someone into your home that hates you. These are not refugees. Refugees are grateful. These are invaders…They are all anti-American. These people are your enemy.”
