DOJ Catches Researcher from the PRC Smuggling Dangerous Pathogen into America

In an eye-opening post on X about the major problem of People’s Republic of China-connection subversion and attacks on America, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel described how a researcher from China was caught abusing his privilege to work at an American university to smuggle a deadly pathogen into America.

For reference, the disease smuggled in was E. coli bacteria, a generally food-borne illness that can cause severe illness, such as kidney failure, and sometimes even death. This incident follows on the heels of Chinese researchers at the University of Michigan being caught smuggling wheat blight into America.

Additionally, this recent arrest comes in the context of MAGA’s intense anger over President Trump’s decision to allow a whopping 600,000 students from the People’s Republic of China to study at American universities on student visas every year, something that many see as both coming at the cost of American students and opening up many university research centers to espionage.

In any case, beginning his post about the recent arrest of the PRC researcher, FBI Director Patel revealed, “Youhuang Xiang, a post-doctoral researcher and J-1 visa holder from China was charged with smuggling Escherichia coli (E. coli) into the U.S. and making false statements about it.”

Continuing, the FBI director noted that this is one example of many of a Chinese researcher taking advantage of America’s generosity, saying, “This is yet another example of a researcher from China – given the privilege to work at a U.S. university – who then allegedly chose to take part in a scheme to circumvent U.S. laws and receive biological materials hidden in a package originating from China.”

Noting the massive damage that could be done to American crops, and thus our food supply, through the deadly pathogen, Director Patel explained, “The @FBI and our CBP partners are committed to enforcing U.S. laws put in place to protect against this global threat to our economy and food supply. If not properly controlled, E. coli and other biological materials could inflict devastating disease to U.S. crops and cause significant financial loss to the U.S. economy.”

He then noted that incidents like this will not be tolerated, saying, “The FBI will not tolerate any attempt to exploit our nation’s institutions for illegal activity – as we have seen in this case and the three Chinese nationals charged in Michigan in November for allegedly smuggling biological materials into the U.S. on several occasions. The FBI and our partners are committed to defending the homeland and stopping any illegal smuggling into our country.”

And, adding to that, Director Patel then called on America’s universities to remain vigilant to this threat and others like it, saying, “To all universities and their compliance departments: Please be vigilant of this trend. Ensure your researchers know that there is a correct and legal way to obtain a license to import/export approved biological materials, and it must be followed without exception. Our continued partnerships will help to better secure our nation and ensure all parties are held accountable.”
