In another potentially quite momentous announcement made via a press release on Tuesday, December 2, the Trump Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it was launching a legal war against a collection of six blue states that are refusing to provide their voter registration lists to the national government.
As background, a major concern of the Trump Administration is cracking down on alleged voter fraud, particularly that involving illegal aliens, such as the illegal alien mayor recently arrested in a red state, with the DOJ taking many of the leading steps in dealing with the very worrisome and troubling situation.
Part of the crackdown involves examining voting rolls, which the administration contends could show that numerous illegal aliens, or others who are disallowed from voting, are registered to vote and/or actually voting in elections, which it is trying to end.
Announcing as much in the press release, the DOJ said, “Today, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced it has filed federal lawsuits against six states — Delaware, Maryland, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington — for failure to produce their statewide voter registration lists upon request.”
Later on in the press release, the DOJ defended its legal rights to demand the voter rolls, saying, “According to the lawsuits, the Attorney General is uniquely charged by Congress with the enforcement of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which were designed by Congress to ensure that states have proper and effective voter registration and voter list maintenance programs.”
Further, the DOJ explained that even the Civil Rights Act justifies AG Bondi demanding the states produce their voter rolls, saying, “The Attorney General also has the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (CRA) at her disposal to demand the production, inspection, and analysis of the statewide voter registration lists.”
Commenting on the situation in the press release, AG Bondi noted that numerous states have not done what they ought be doing in cleaning up their voting rols and protecting against fraud, saying, “Accurate voter rolls are the cornerstone of fair and free elections, and too many states have fallen into a pattern of noncompliance with basic voter roll maintenance.”

Additionally, she vowed that this would not be a one-off effort but rather that the DOJ is going to continue cracking down on the voter rolls issue and like matters, saying, “The Department of Justice will continue filing proactive election integrity litigation until states comply with basic election safeguards.”
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, commenting on the matter as well in the press release, said, “Our federal elections laws ensure every American citizen may vote freely and fairly. States that continue to defy federal voting laws interfere with our mission of ensuring that Americans have accurate voter lists as they go to the polls, that every vote counts equally, and that all voters have confidence in election results. At this Department of Justice, we will not stand for this open defiance of federal civil rights laws.”
Further, posting much the same message in a tweet on X, she said, “States that defy federal voting laws interfere with our mission of ensuring that Americans have accurate voter lists & that all voters have confidence in our elections. @CivilRights & @AGPamBondi will not stand for this open defiance of federal civil rights laws.”
