For a lot of young professional football players, winning the Super Bowl is their greatest dream. Following the Chiefs’ Sunday night win over the Eagles, Nick Allegretti was sitting on top of the NFL world, but that wasn’t his biggest reason to celebrate.
Allegretti, an offensive lineman, got news from his pregnant wife at 3:30 on Sunday morning that she had given birth to twins in their home city Chicago. According to the Associated Press, he was able to be virtually alongside his wife with the help of FaceTime, while his teammates slept ahead of the big game.
Allegretti, who started three games this season, remained ready to enter the game if the Chiefs ever had the need. It’s hard to imagine a more magical day for an NFL player than winning the Super Bowl and welcoming two new children into your life. The reunion with his wife will certainly be an emotional one, and interestingly, nobody in that family is going to care about the Super Bowl ring for a few days.
Incredible day for Chiefs OL Nick Allegretti. His wife Christina gave birth to twins about 4 a.m. Sunday morning, and he finished the day with his second Super Bowl ring. “Best day of my life no matter what.” pic.twitter.com/tUoBxkZuve

This wasn’t the only baby drama that befell the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday. Injured wide receiver Mecole Hardman also received word from his girlfriend that she had gone into labor at roughly the same time that the Allegrettis welcomed their two youngest into the world, according to ESPN.
Many fans thought that this may be a good sign for the Chiefs, that they may have luck on their side going into Sunday night. If that was true, it may have been countered by Eagle’s offensive lineman Jason Kelce, an all-pro whose wife was in the stands with her OB-GYN due to her being so late in her pregnancy. Jason and his brother Travis Kelce have a podcast called New Heights, with Jason and Travis Kelce, where Jason said this:
“Kylie’s bringing her OB because she’s going to be 38 weeks pregnant at the game. That could be a Super Kelce bowl. If she has a baby in the stadium, it’s officially scripted.”
The Kelce brothers were at the center of the Super Bowl media lead-up, but instead of their football play, it was their mother who stood in the limelight. Mama Kelce was tasked with the unenviable job of watching both her sons square off head to head on Sunday night, and cheer with Travis as she consoled Jason following the result of the game. Here’s what she said about this in a recent interview, before the game:
“It’s your hopes and dreams coming true, but it’s your worst fears. Somebody is going to go home a loser, and neither one of them lose very well.”
It seems that she raised those boys well, as Jason Kelce was gracious in defeat, congratulating his brother on a job well done. Here’s how he reflected on the game, according to ESPN:
“It was an awesome two weeks for our family. I’m really happy for Trav, the Chiefs. There’s a lot of people I know over there in Kansas City that are a big reason why I’m even in Philadelphia, including head coach Andy Reid. Frustrated we didn’t win but certainly happy for those guys.”
