In a significant blow to the GOP, Indiana State Sen. Mike Bohacek betrayed his party and his voters by announcing he will vote no on a Republican redistricting measure that would solidify the state’s red status and help the party in the House.
Nominally, Bohacek blamed a bombastic Thanksgiving message from the president, where he called failed Vice Presidential Candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz “Seriously Retarded,” for the split. However, conservatives on social media were unconvinced by his claims.
In any case, a prominent conservative announced the break on social media. “🚨BREAKING — Indiana State Sen. Mike Bohacek (R) announces he will vote NO on the GOP redistricting bill, citing Trump’s use of the word “retarded” as crossing the line,” a post noted.
The same source quoted Bohacek as saying, “…perhaps he [Pres. Trump] can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority,” drawing the ire of dozens of conservatives.
For context, Bohacek was enraged by a hilarious Thanksgiving message from the president in which Trump attacked Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for letting his state be flooded with Somalis who have pilfered millions upon millions of dollars from taxpayers in the state.
“A very Happy Thanksgiving salutation to all of our Great American Citizens and Patriots who have been so nice in allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at, along with certain other foolish countries throughout the World, for being “Politically Correct,” and just plain STUPID, when it comes to Immigration,” Trump declared.
Continuing to lay out his case, the president continued, “As an example, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for “prey” as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.”

Pivoting to the unpopular Democrats, Trump kept up the assault. “The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both, while the worst “Congressman/woman” in our Country, Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how “badly” she is treated, when her place of origin is a decadent, backward, and crime ridden nation,” he delcared.
Announcing his unprecedented betrayal, State Senator Mike Bohacek took to Facebook to justify his decision to betray Trump. “Many of you have asked my position on redistricting. I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter,” he whined.
Still not done, he kept complaining, “Those of you that don’t know my family or me might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome. This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences. I will be voting NO on redistricting.”
When the story broke on social media, conservatives were enraged. “President used a mean word so my entire belief system changed” is certainly a position to take,” one commentor joked. Another added, “Selling out your entire party and constituents because someone said “retarded” is, well… retarded.”
