The already far-left sanctuary city of New York elected self-described “democratic socialist” Zohran Mamdani as its mayor on November 5, and Mamdani has spent the weeks since vowing to block the Trump Administration from carrying out ICE operations in the city. Tom Homan and President Trump have responded to such a threat with fury and vows of their own.
Recently, for example, Mamdani was asked if he would block the NYPD from working with ICE and replied by saying, “What I will continue to do is be someone who will stand up for New Yorkers when Donald Trump is seeking to fulfil his promise to create the single largest deportation force in American history.”
Adding to that, the “communist” mayor-elect insisted that the New York Police Department, which he referred to as “my NYPD,” would not be working with ICE. He said, “And my NYPD will continue to not be of assistance to ICE whenever they are trying to terrorise New Yorkers across the five boroughs.”
Responding to that, Border Czar Tom Homan insisted that New Yorkers will see a flood of immigration enforcement officers in the run-up to Mamdani taking office, as ICE will not be backing down from its operations in the city. Further, he declared that he will be forcing Mayor Adams and his administration to, in its waning days, reopen the ICE office on Rikers Island.
Declaring as much when he appeared on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom”, Homan said, “Me and Mayor Adams at one point had an agreement to let ICE into Rikers Island so we could arrest the public safety threats and the safety and security of that facility, but the City Council shut it down.”
Continuing, he explained that New York City will face a flood of officers who are there to crack down on illegal immigration in massive operations. He said, “I plan on being in New York City in the near future. We’re gonna do operations in New York City — we’re already there now, the teams are there now.”
Further, Border Czar Homan added that the sanctuary city will face no break or respite, as ICE is intent on cracking down rather than backing down in the face of Mamdani, saying, “But we will increase the enforcement presence in New York City. Again, because they’re a sanctuary city and there are public safety threats hitting the streets every day.”

Watch Mr. Homan here:
Responding in a statement, Mamdani mayoral transition spokesperson Dora Pekec gave a vague and bland statement about the importance of millions upon millions of migrants to the functioning of New York City, and then a veiled remark about how Mamdani will resist ICE.
Pekec said, in that statement, the New York Post reports, “New York City’s more than three million immigrants are central to our city’s strength, vitality, and success. The Mayor-elect remains steadfast in his commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every single New Yorker and upholding our sanctuary laws.”
