New reports are emerging that say transgender individuals are fleeing the United States in higher numbers than ever before due to feeling “unsafe” in Trump’s America. Lizette Trujillo , an American of Mexican heritage, is one such person. Trujillo moved her family, including her transgender son, 5,000 miles away from their one-story home in Tucson, Arizona, just two years after first purchasing the house because she says she fears for the safety of her child.
Such is what was revealed by a report in TIME magazine. According to it, Trujillo says the straw that broke the camel’s back and led to her decision to flee the U.S. was the executive order President Donald Trump signed that places strict limits on access to “gender-affirming” procedures and treatments for individuals under the age of 19. She says the order, which was signed a week into the president’s second term, made her feel “afraid.”
The Trujillos aren’t the only ones seeking to leave the country in order to ensure their transgender children have access to procedure to affirm their gender identities. A nonprofit organization known as the Rainbow Railroad, aids LGBT individuals and their families get away from what they consider to be “state-sponsored violence” and has revealed that it is receiving record numbers of requests for help from U.S. citizens to leave America following President Trump’s big victory in 2024.
According to Time magazine, the group’s head of engagement, Latoya Nugent, said, “That trend has continued. “The U.S. continues to be the number one country where people are requesting help from. The report goes on to say that two-thirds of the requests received by the group are from people who are transgender.
Before Trump won a second term in the White House, many LGBT people were seeking to come to the U.S., rather than escape from it. Trujillo, along with other families in similar situations, has revealed that the decision to leave came because of the impression that the Trump administration is enacting anti-trans policies, pointing to the Executive Order he signed that recognizes only two sexes, male and female.
The order also seeks to ban transgender individuals from updating their gender on federal documents. However, there is good reason for this. Federal documents need to accurately reflect a person’s gender at birth as a means of properly identifying them, especially when it comes to receiving medical treatment. Certain ailments and treatments can only be properly administered by doctors and nurses if they know the actual gender of a person.
Time’s article, obviously slanted in favor of the LGBT agenda, accuses those on the right of having enacted a series of policies that “target” transgender people at the state level in recent years. Policies such as forbidding transgender and nonbinary individuals from being able to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with and preventing minors from undergoing drastic, body-altering surgeries are blamed for these individuals fleeing the country.

For reference, in June 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of just such a ban in Tennessee. Time laments the fact that 600 bills have been introduced at the state level to tackle this issue. Again, they refer to such legislation as being “anti-trans.” The state of Arizona, where the Trujillos originally hail from, passed a total of eight bills this year, including a controversial measure that prevents transgender people from updating their birth certificates to match their preferred gender identity.
Most of the bills have been shot down by leftist Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs. However, there is fear among members of the trans community that when her term is up in January 2027, she could be replaced by a conservative and similar bills will ultimately be passed into law.
The White House has defended such moves. “President Trump is making our country safer, wealthier, and greater than ever before for all Americans,” White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston went on to say in a statement to TIME. “If any person chooses to leave the best country on Earth because of their Trump Derangement Syndrome—that’s their own problem.”
