Who would be dumb enough to try robbing someone in Texas, land of guns and people ready to use them? Shockingly, one Houston-area man was: he showed up to a hotel on January 16th with a long rifle and tried robbing the hotel clerk, but then was scared off when the clerk pulled a gun of her own.
According to the Houston police, the masked man, a young black male, approached the hotel counter with the rifle and pointed it at the clerk, demanding money from a cash drawer. The attempted robber could be heard saying “I ain’t playing with you.”
But neither was the clerk playing with him. Rather than hand him the cash, she drew a handgun of her own and drew a bead on him, though he slid off the counter and ran away before she could get a shot off on him. Watch that incident here:
KHOU 11, reporting on the incident, said:
A hotel clerk armed with a handgun managed to scare away a robber who was armed with a rifle at a hotel off the Katy Freeway last month, according to the Houston Police Department.
It happened on Jan. 16 around 7 a.m. at a hotel off the Katy Freeway near Highway 6, HPD officials said.
Police said the suspect approached the counter carrying a rifle and demanded money from the cash drawer. As the robber climbed over the counter, the clerk pulled out her own handgun, scaring the suspect and causing him to run away, according to HPD.
The same report added the description given by the Houston police, saying “Police described the suspect as being about 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 150 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans and white shoes.”
