Former President Barack Obama heaped a ton of praise on former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a fellow Democrat, following her announcement that she would be retiring from Congress after nearly four decades in service. What Obama said about Pelosi was so outrageous that he immediately got roasted like a Thanksgiving turkey by users on X.
In his own post on the platform, Obama said that Pelosi “will go down in history as one of the best speakers the House of Representatives has ever had” and that she “made us proud to be Democrats.” Just those two sentiments alone are enough to subject the former president to waves of mockery and trolling, but those are just a sample of what he wrote.
He kicked off his post by lauding Pelosi for her outrageously long tenure in Congress and for all the ways she’s allegedly improved conditions in the U.S. “For almost four decades, Nancy Pelosi has served the American people and worked to make our country better,” Obama wrote.
The former president hailed the California congresswoman for her ability to bring the country together and for ramming bills through Congress. “No one was more skilled at bringing people together and getting legislation passed — and I will always be grateful for her support of the Affordable Care Act.”
“She made us proud to be Democrats,” he continued in the post, adding, “and will go down in history as one of the best speakers the House of Representatives has ever had.” He then thanked her for her leadership and for being his friend. “Nancy, thank you for your leadership and your friendship. Michelle and I wish you and Paul the best in this next chapter.”
The comment section, as you can imagine, had a whole lot of fun ripping into the ridiculous sentiments Obama wrote concerning the former speaker. Cherie Currie, former vocalist for the legendary all-girl punk band, The Runaways, which also featured rock and roll icon Joan Jett, was first up to bat.
“You and Nancy have destroyed my state,” Currie kicked off her post. “How you can boast about anything ‘California’? It sickens me.” The punk rocker then went on to deliver a real scorcher saying, “Your face on the ‘YES ON 50’ commercials made me see YOU CARE NOT for Americans that don’t fall in line with your horrendous Democratic Party. I VOTED FOR YOU in 2008. You’re a disgrace.” Conservatism really is the new punk rock.

Another user summarized the overall feeling of most Americans concerning Pelosi and Obama by simply stating, “You are both creeps.” A third took aim at the pair’s passage of Obamacare saying, ” The ‘Affordable Care Act’ is neither affordable or workable. It destroyed a formerly great USA healthcare system. What a disasters your presidency was, and how it totally divided America. When will you and Big Mikey reveal the true nature of your relationship?”
Actor John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard and Smallville fame got in on the action too. “Wait… Served who? Last time I checked, it’s only her bank account that’s gotten bigger since she came into the office and started ‘serving’ people. Wait, my assistant just came to me and gave me these other figures… You have actually gotten richer than she has being a ‘public servant.’ Just how do you explain that?” Wouldn’t we all love to know?
