Speaker of the House Mike Johnson delivered a sly, cheeky, but still very funny comment during a press conference this week about former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announcing her retirement from public service. Johnson was joined by several speakers, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise who also delivered a rousing speech about the dangers posed by socialism following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City.
Johnson kicked off his comments by discussing Pelosi’s announcement and discuss how her retirement from public service speaks volumes about the future of the Democratic Party as it continues to shift further and further to the left. “Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi has now announced her retirement this morning,” Johnson said.
“That is a very important sign that I hope you all will delve into. Even the famous San Francisco liberal is not far left enough for the Neo Marxist,” he added, ridiculing her party’s far left turn as voters push radicals like “Marxist” Mayor Zohran Mamdani into office.
Pelosi herself is significantly further left than most liberals of her generation, many of whom, if they served today, would be closer to the center or even establishment conservatism than they would be individuals such as Mamdani, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Johnson then took a moment to commend Pelosi for the many, many, many years of service she has spent in Congress, saying, “I commend her for her service, as we all do, everyone who serves in Congress, but there should be a lot written about that.”

Pelosi announced her retirement on social media on Thursday, much to the chagrin of many liberal feminists who consider her to be something of an icon for their movement and the advancement of women in public service. “I will not be seeking reelection to Congress,” the California congresswoman stated in a six-minute video posted on social media. “With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative.”
Pelosi, 85, served a total of 20 terms in office, according to a report from USA Today, which has led to many saying it’s time for her to move on, making room for the younger, far more left-wing, individuals in the country to have their moment to shine. During two stints as the speaker, Pelosi led the charge to impeach President Donald Trump during his first term in the White House.
She is also credited with leading the charge to have former President Joe Biden drop his bid for the presidency in 2024, which led to his being replaced by former Vice President Kamala Harris. The move ultimately backfired on Democrats, leading to the reelection of Trump to the Oval Office. Thanks to Pelosi, we were also gifted with the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) which has been anything but a blessing for the American people.
In her announcement video, the California Democrat took credit for “bringing home billions of dollars for our city and our state” for projects concerning transportation and the environment, among many others. Pelosi didn’t provide additional details concerning why she decided to retire now, but revealed she was confident that had she run again, she would have won.
