A former morning television news anchor is now in jail after she allegedly stabbed her own elderly mother to death. This is a major, twisted tale documenting a frightening fall from grace and goes to show that just because you see a face on TV every day, doesn’t mean you truly know what that individual is like in real life.
The suspect, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, previously anchored for FOX 2 News located in the city of St. Louis. Mock was taken into custody by local law enforcement last Friday in Wichita, Kansas. Police say Mock stabbed her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, inside the home the two women shared.
Reports from the Wichita Police Department reveal that officers responded to a call at the home around 7:50 a.m.. Officials found Mock outside, her hands covered with cuts. When police entered the home they discovered Avers, in her bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Avers was rushed to the hospital, but it was already too late. She was pronounced dead not long after her arrival.
Mock was also transported to the hospital to treat her injuries, but was later booked into Sedgwick County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, meaning she is alleged to have committed the homicide intentionally and with premeditation.
If Mock, who is currently being held in the local jail on a $1 million bond, is convicted of this charge, she’s looking at a life sentence with the possibility of parole in 25 to 50 years. So, in slaying her mother (allegedly), she destroyed her own life and further as well, as she will be in advanced old age before even glimpsing the possibility of parole.
According to KTVU, Mock worked as a morning news anchor for FOX 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, along with holding several positions at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City. However, she ended her career in journalism and was found to be employed at a data management software company in a sales position. Local news outlets also tracked down Aver’s husband, according to Straight Arrow News, who then confirmed that Mock’s mother worked as a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals.
Mock’s neighbors were shocked to see the 47-year-old come out of the house bloodied up. “There was a woman who approached our vehicle with blood all over her hands and body, asking us to call 911,” Alyssa Castro, who lives in the same neighborhood as Mock, told local media outlets.

Continuing, Castro said Mock then pulled out her phone and dashed back in the house where she herself called police, saying she “stabbed her mother to save herself,” which could be evidence of some sort of psychotic break with reality. Only time will tell what role, if any, mental illness played in the crime.
As of this writing, Mock’s motive for the brutal slaying of her mother is unclear. Information concerning the date for her first court appearance has not been made available. Fox News reached out to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and is awaiting comment.
