Franklin Graham is the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham. Like his father, he’s known for preaching the Good Word to and praying for all who might listen, a list that now includes President Joe Biden. That’s because Franklin Graham recently said on Facebook that he’s praying for President Biden’s eyes to be opened on the topic of abortion. In his words:
President Biden’s State of the Union speech last night included a lot of areas that I personally disagree with. He urged Congress to pass a bill enshrining Roe v. Wade into law.
I am so thankful for the Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade—because it was wrong.
My prayer is that one day President Biden’s eyes will be opened and he will see what abortion really is and realize the judgment that faces a nation that murders its children.
The part of the State of the Union address referred to by Reverend Graham was the part where he called on Congress to “restore” the “right” established by Roe v. Wade and attacked Republicans for trying to limit abortion, saying:
Congress must restore the right that was taken away in Roe v. Wade — and protect Roe v. Wade. (Applause.) Give every woman the constitutional right.
The Vice President and I are doing everything to protect access to reproductive healthcare and safeguard patient safety. But already, more than a dozen states are enforcing extreme abortion bans.
Make no mistake about it: If Congress passes a national ban, I will veto it. (Applause.)
But let’s also pass — let’s also pass the bipartisan Equality Act to ensure LBG- — LGBTQ Americans, especially transgender young people, can live with safety and dignity. (Applause.)
Our strength — our strength is not just the example of our power, but the power of our example. Let’s remember, the world is watching.
Abortion isn’t the only controversial issue that Graham has posted about recenly, taking a conservative stand in a culture war issue. He did so as well on the topic of gay marriage and the Church of England’s decision to “bless same-sex marriage.” Ripping into that decision, he said:
Sin is disobedience to God’s Word. The Bible also calls it lawlessness. When the first man and woman disobeyed God, sin came into the world and it has infected the entire human race like a cancer of the soul. God sent His Son to pay the price for our sins. He took our sins to the cross where He died and shed His blood for our sins, and He was buried. And as we approach Easter we are reminded that He rose from the grave, and He is alive! The next time He comes will be as a judge, to judge all mankind. The Bible tells us if we repent of our sins and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, we will be saved.
The Church of England voted today to “bless same-sex marriage.” They use 1 John 4:16 to defend this lawless decree: “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.” They are interpreting that love = sex and love gives a license to have sex with whomever they say they love. This is not what God teaches. The Church of England is blessing sin. By doing this, they are attempting to nullify Christ’s atoning work on the Cross. Shame, shame, shame.
Further, on the topic of transgender atheletes, Reverend Graham said “Bethany Hamilton lost her arm in a shark attack while surfing when she was 13 years old, but she survived and has been surfing competitively for 15 years. Now Bethany says she is stepping out of the sport because of a new rule the World Surf League has put in place that allows men to compete in the women’s competitions. Who makes these rules anyway? It’s tragic. I don’t understand why all women don’t stand up in revolt! Pray for Bethany and other brave young women like her who are trying to defend what even common sense tells you is right. Thank you for taking a stand Bethany—I hope they will decide to change this new rule.”
